New STEP Program Benefits Transfer Students from Hocking to OU
For students who plan to transfer to Ohio University, the Strategic Transfer Education Plan (STEP) is designed to provide an advantage to current and future Hocking College students.
STEP is designed around the concept of 2+2 articulation agreements, guaranteeing a transparent pathway to an OU degree. The new STEP provides students with an incredible opportunity, the ability to have guaranteed early admission to Ohio University. This program was designed specifically for students from Hocking so they can have the opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree from Ohio University.
Students must maintain a 2.0 overall GPA in order to participate and must also complete 30 semester hours of credit at Hocking College, among other criteria.
Stay tuned for more details about the Strategic Transfer Education Plan in the coming months.

Short but Significant Safety: Tip #1
With the school year beginning, the opportunities for crime increase. The Hocking College Police Department has provided some great tips on how to stay safe anywhere you go. Although Nelsonville isn't known for its criminal watch, it is always better to be safe than sorry. Safety tip #1 is on how to stay safe at your house or rental. These tips include: - Keep your doors locked at all times, even if you are away for only a few moments. Do not prop open your doors.
- Be assertive and demand that any unwanted person on your property leaves. Anyone who refuses is a trespasser.
- Leave porch lights on at night. When you expect to return home after dark, leave an interior light on with shades drawn. Criminals do not like attention or the ability to be seen.
- List only initials and last name on your mailbox or door and in the phone book.
More information on how to stay safe can be found in the next Verbatim issue, or online at hocking.edu/campussafety/prevention. |
Hocking College Graduate Pursues Music Dreams in Nashville
While listening to her favorite band, Hocking College graduate Annie Gullo knew she wanted to be a part of music. "I wasn't sure how, especially since I was only fifteen at the time. But I knew that being a part of music was the only thing that would make me happy," Gullo said.
Gullo graduated from Hocking College's Music Management program in May 2013. Her biggest deciding factor in attending Hocking was the music program offered. Gullo learned different aspects of the music industry in her classes, as well as what to expect. "My classes really helped to open my eyes more and gave me a lot of life experiences."
Gullo pursued her dreams upon graduating from Hocking College by moving to Nashville, Tennessee where she is interning for two different companies. She works at Modern Works Music Publishing and Provident Label Group in the radio promotions department.
The music industry is a tough business to get into, Gullo explained. "As of right now, I'm just trying to get my foot in the door." Her main goal is to work in music publishing, where she can get more involved with synchronization licenses, which is music with film and television.
