Dream Job: Hocking College Inspires Educational Career
Jen (Carr) Fulwider has a passion for teaching that she credits to her time at Hocking College. Fulwider graduated in 1997 from the Hocking College Interpretation Services program. Originally from Toledo, Fulwider found Hocking College to be a fit and decided to attend even though it was four hours away from home.
After graduating from Hocking, she continued her education to finish her Bachelor's Degree in Outdoor Education at the University of Toledo. Upon graduation, Fulwider decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher and went on to complete her Master's Degree in Special Education.
"I am now a Special Education teacher," Fulwider said, "I've been in my dream job for 10 years now!"
A strong educational foundation at Hocking gave Fulwider her start. "I credit my love of education to my two years at Hocking and to the best instructors!" Fulwider commented. "While teaching at my day job and at the collegiate level, I aspire to give my students the honest truth about the field of education and the real world, just as those angels did for me at Hocking."
She is currently working on her Education Specialist Degree and teaching part time at a university. She is scheduled to start her Ph.D. this fall.
"I can't say enough (about) how much my experiences at Hocking changed me, challenged me, and inspired me to truly go after my dreams," Fulwider said. "While I may not be in the Natural Resources field, those two years at Hocking College were the best times of my younger life!" |

Reminder: Hocking College Foundation Hosts Smile-A-Thon
Hocking College Foundation will join nearly 70 educational institutions worldwide to participate in the first-ever Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day by hosting a Smile-A-Thon for the campus community from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on February 28, 2013 in the Student Center Lobby.
The initiative, organized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, is designed to increase student understanding of philanthropy and grow engagement on campus.

Reminder: President's List Applications Available
Students with a 3.5 or higher accumulative grade point average and a minimum of 30 Hocking College credit hours will receive an invitation to apply for consideration for the President's List. Students are asked to apply online this year via Survey Monkey. Those selected for the President's List demonstrate outstanding leadership and service, and maintain the highest academic standards.
Faculty and staff endorsements are critical in the selection process. Endorsements with specific information, completed by staff that work closely with a student and have first-hand knowledge of leadership skills and service activities, are a powerful point of consideration in the process. If you cannot provide specific information on leadership and service, please refer the student to another staff member for endorsement.
Students are ineligible for consideration if endorsement forms are not part of their portfolios at the time of review. This year's endorsements are due March 1, 2013. The selection committee will meet during March to select those fitting the criteria.
