Historical Document From Yale |
This is the time of legends, folklore and
mysticism but our Patrick was a very real
man with major battles. He was kidnapped forced into slavery, stolen from his home
and loved ones. Alone he fought tyranny
for the rest of his life.
There is much adoration, art and hoopla along with all of the fanfare in his following, but what he really left us with his legacy are his letters.
Yale was careful to preserve them.

Pictured above at the Hill of Tara in the Irish Royal seat rests this famous statue of Saint Patrick. For more sights visit New York City. It touts Saint Patrick's Cathedral full of gothic art work and beautiful stained glass, situated across from the Rockefeller Center.
If you love history, you will relish
these letters.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

As of Friday, February 14th the after school tally deposited was $495.00 to the Boosters.
This $495.00 is in addition to the money
from the pre-sale of carnations earlier
in the week that I deposited with Sue
at the last board meeting. And
there was more sold on
the evening of the dance.
We did well. We'll do this again.
Thank you for supporting the

carnations from the school.

On February 6 SPHS AP Environmental Science (APES) students participated in
the Manasota Regional Envirothon at Oscar
Scherer State Park, finishing in 2nd place!
Envirothon is a national outdoor environmental
team competition for high school students,
testing their knowledge of aquatics, forestry,
soils, wildlife, and a current topic:
"Sustainable Local Agriculture/Locally Grown."
Manatee River Soil and Water Conservation
District along with Sarasota Soil and Water
Conservation District sponsor the regional
competition. The students enjoyed applying
the environmental concepts they have been
learning in class and working collaboratively
to reach a common goal while immersed in the
native Florida outdoors.

Animal Crackers... Mariel McCool is a Senior at SPHS and our club President of the 4H chapter named Animal Crackers.
Mariel has been a member for two years and has shown exemplary leadership abilities.
She has been awarded the big honor and responsibility of the 4H Foundation Steer.
Our steer Moonshine eats approximately 200 pounds of feed a week. Diligently she will feed, groom and care for this live stock as well as show him at the fair this year. As a commodity, it will be auctioned off to the highest bidder! If you are interested you too may purchase him or send in an add-on to offset the cost.
All the fun happens March 21 @ 7:30pm at the Sarasota County Fair.
Mariel participates in 4H Club all on a volunteer basis. She loves to ride & train horses along with all of the 4H activities.
FFA is on campus through the Vet Assisting program here at SCTI. Our horse judging team goes to State in April and Mariel is a also a member that Horse and Live Stock Judging Team. She participates in parliamentary procedures and tractor driving CDE's. Feeling lucky? Contact Mariel about the 4H Foundation Pig Raffle tickets! For just $2.00 you can enter for a chance to win an entire pig cut and wrapped or non processed.

April 23rd is, as everyone knows, Shakespeare's Birthday. At SPHS the senior class is invited to attend a birthday party for the MAN. Attendees will be wearing Elizabethan costumes, dance to Elizabethan music, write and read to the assembled guests some slightly off-color Limericks (a favorite form of entertainment in the age), play an Elizabethan party game, watch and participate in a Miracle Play written by one of the guests, and eat Elizabethan foods. If you recall the Elizabethan Age was a time of settlement in the new world. The foods eaten at an Elizabethan table are some of the same foods traditionally eaten in the islands of the Caribbean. The persons settling in those areas brought certain foods with them: small "fry pies" filled with meat, fruits, vegetables, or a combination of these (Empanadas). Rice balls were a special treat (Balls of rice filled with a small piece of sharp cheese, rolled in bread crumbs and lightly fried).
If any parents would like to help out with the food, I'd welcome the help. At the end of the party we sing "Happy Birthday to Willie" and then devour a birthday cake. The party is from 12:45 until 2:00. All seniors (only)are invited. It is the only event that is limited just to the
senior class.
If any parent would like to assist in the preparation of food or in helping by serving out on that day or by contributing toward the purchase of the cake , please let me know. This event is so senior-focused that the kids enjoy wearing a costume and performing and don't object to parents being there. It's really very rewarding to see these kids having a bonding time together. No dates. Just friends. All senior parents are invited not just to help in the cooking, but also to attend (in costume yourself if you wish). Let's celebrate not just Shakespeare but the experience of high school together.

TESTIMONIAL
"Many parents send their child
off to their districted school without looking into whether or not it's the right place
for their son or daughter. We faced that
problem four years ago with
a gifted, ambidextrous, math
and music kid. Each school we checked out
just wasn't right - the programs were
too rigid or not rigid enough, not
enough flexibility in scheduling ...
and it was at the advice of another
teacher we checked out Polytech. It
frankly was with some trepidation
we attended an open house. Within
five minutes, our son was deep
in conversation with students like himself; kids with multiple interests. After talking with teachers and the principal,
we knew where our son belonged.
And over the four years, Polytech has
molded classes to fit the students, added
clubs and activities, and grown to the
point I would recommend it to any parent
looking for "that school with something extra." We've helped where we can
as parents and the Boosters are great,
as are the teachers that give
so much of their free time for special events.
Polytech has been great. Our son is moving on to a career in Nuclear Science
in the Navy and who knows
where the skills he learned at SPHS
will take him from there? But we know
the school has given him the
opportunity for a great future
and we thank you from
the bottoms of our hearts for it."

"Bricks and mortar make a house, but the laughter of children makes a home." - Ancient Irish Proverb
What we won't do for our children. In wanting
the best education for the next generation,
SPHS makes the most out of a day's curriculum.
In excelling in training for our youth for fortuitous careers to earning early college credits with the dual enrollment program, while yet still attending high school, these are the building blocks that we take joy in.
The generosity, school spirit and willingness to help one another to get things done at our high school, shows we are all a real community
of friends.
We are pleased with everything our school accomplishes from student volunteers, winning competitions, to all of it's achievements.
For us Suncoast Polytech High School students, staff and volunteers, aren't we the lucky ones...
Feeling Fortunate,
