KAIROS news
KAIROS is an optional retreat opportunity offered for current juniors and seniors. The May retreat is scheduled for May 31-June 3, with spots still open. (Members of the Class of 2016 are welcome, even though it is after graduation!) Many students who desire to not miss school find the May retreat a perfect way to end the school year and begin summer! Students should complete the online form as soon as possible if they are interested in attending the May retreat. Spots are filled on a first-come basis per retreat. With the large junior class, we need to make sure each retreat is filled. See or contact Mrs. Robin Good for additional information.

Host Family Opportunity
In August we will welcome our third young woman from our sister school, Saint Joseph Joshi Gakuen, Japan, to STA.

At this time we seek TWO families from within the St. Teresa's Academy community to host this student for the 2016-2017 academic year.
  • Each family will host the student for nine weeks to a full semester.
  • School-related expenses, including incidentals, will be covered by STA.
  • It's a wonderful opportunity to "serve the dear neighbor."
Our SJJG sister will arrive in the United States just prior to the start of school, August 7 - 9. She will depart the United States the week following the end of the academic year, May 2017. She will not return to her home country during her time here in the States.

Our Japanese guest was selected through an extensive application and interview process. She will join our sophomore class and we could not be more delighted to have her be a part of STA.

If you would like more information about opening your home, please contact me to obtain a Host Family Application or answer any questions you may have.

Thank you,
Liz Majors, College Counselor

Destination Paris:  March 2017
French teacher Alice Amick is offering a self-guided trip to Paris through Passports Educational Travel for Spring Break 2017. This flexible program provides a supportive framework (flights, centrally-located accommodations, breakfast, some pre-arranged dinners, Metro passes, a boat ride on the Seine, etc.), leaving participants free to experience Paris "through the back door" as Rick Steves would say. We will use public transportation and design our own itinerary to explore the museums, cathedrals, monuments and distinctive neighborhoods of Paris, including the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, the Latin Quarter, Montmartre, and much more. The trip is open to current French students and their family members. Please contact Ms. Amick at aamick@stteresasacademy.org for further information.  Merci!
England France 2017
Student Trip Opportunity
STA history teacher Mike Egner has finished scheduling and planning his fourth student trip to England and France, which will take place June 13-22 in summer of 2017. Students in all grade levels are eligible to take part in the trip. Trip participants will be limited to 30. Teachers Alicia Stewart and Anne Papineau will chaperone the trip as well.

Every two years, Mr. Egner has planned and led this trip to Greater London, and various locations in southern England including Cambridge, Bath, Stonehenge, Oxford, Canterbury, Dover, and Greenwich. In France the tour will include Greater Paris sites and Versailles Chateau. Students and parents who are interested in getting more information can contact Mr. Egner by email at STA. Our first student and parent informational meeting will be held in Windmoor Room B (Mr. Egner's classroom) on Tuesday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. Complete trip itinerary and cost are available and will be presented at the meeting.
Dear Parents,

Please take a moment to log into PowerSchool to view your daughter's progress as we enter the fourth and final quarter of the school year. Students have just completed the online course registration process. The next step is to define each student's class schedule. Schedules will be mailed in late summer.

For parents who have yet to register online and/or pay the registration fee of $350 for the 2016-17 school year, we kindly remind you to do so as quickly as possible. Senior parents need to have all tuition and fees paid no later than Monday, April 25, 2016, to participate in Class Day and complete the graduation process. Please make your payment directly to Smart Tuition if you are in Smart (888-868-8828) and to STA if you are on the one-time pay plan.

Senior Hallie Ryan was selected for the Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program that honors 100 of Missouri's top academic students in the graduating Class of 2016. Congratulations, Hallie!

Athletics
The end of March and beginning of April marks the start to the spring sport season at STA. The Athletic Department sponsors three sports, including lacrosse, soccer, and track & field. Each team looks to once again make strong postseason runs.

Basketball finished the season 21-5 and finished second in the MSHSAA Class 5, District 13 Tournament. Seniors, Eleanor Lueke and Ryan Wilkins, along with junior, Hailey Coleman, were each named to the All-District team, while Lueke also earned All-State honors by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association. Lueke is the first STA basketball player to do so since Rachel Stark in 1996. Lueke and Wilkins made postseason All-Star teams and broke STA basketball records, tying for first in all-time games played (104). Additionally, Lueke set the career number of three-point field goals made (204). Coach Amanda Hanneman is a finalist for the Metro KC Basketball Coach of the Year. In the past year, STA coaches have earned coach of the year recognitions in soccer, basketball and volleyball.

Lacrosse opened the season with a 19-2 defeat over Pembroke Hill. The Stars look to make another run at the Missouri State Championship after the team finished second last spring. The Stars have added a trip to Chicago (April 15-16) and will host its annual tournament, April 22-23. Click here for the complete lacrosse schedule.

Soccer kicked off the season by competing in the Lee's Summit Varsity Soccer Invitational, March 21-25 in Lee's Summit, MO. The Stars are currently off to a 1-1 start and will play in the 2016 Bob Durig Memorial MO-KAN Challenge at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, March 28 - April 2.
