NEWS OF INTEREST AND UPCOMING EVENTS
OFFICE CLOSED/NO HEALING SERVICE
The office will be closed on Monday, April 2nd. There will be no Healing/Eucharist service that night.
LABYRINTH
Labyrinth, Good Friday from 12:45-4:00 p.m.
Although the practice of walking the labyrinth is over 5,000 years old, Christianity adopted it as a symbol, changing the design to imbue it with specifically Christian meaning. For almost 1,000 years, the Christian church has had a labyrinth tradition. Walking the labyrinth has an intentionality to it that focuses the mind on God-centered prayer. It is a form of personal meditation and devotion and takes us beyond our limited, conditioned personality and learning to a deeper place of awareness and revelation. Because it is so personal, it is a spiritual practice that can be enjoyed by everyone.
A labyrinth is not a maze, there is one pathway in and out of the center. St. Paul's labyrinth is a painted canvas modeled after the famous labyrinth on the floor of the Chartes Cathedral in France. It occupies over half the gym space and can accommodate a number of labyrinth walkers at the same time. Soft music is played to enhance the sacredness of the space. Special Good Friday meditations are available if anyone is interested in meditating on the Lord's Passion during their walk. Come to discover our inner sacred space.
ST. CLARE'S GUILD
St. Helena's and St. Martha's Guilds have joined together to form a combined Guild with the name St. Clare's Guild. Our members chose the Saint's name to personify the intention of the Guild.
St. Clare, daughter of a wealthy family, was inspired by St. Francis. That inspiration lead to a desire to serve God, and to give her life to the following of Christ's teaching. Like St. Francis, Clare gave up her worldly belongings, started an Order with several other women, and became Mother Superior of the Order. The Order embraced the Franciscan rule of absolute poverty. Their days were given over to works of mercy to the poor and neglected Clare's biographer says that she "radiated a spirit of fervor so strong it kindled those who heard her voice". Clare exhorted her followers to love holy poverty, and share their possessions.
St. Clare's Guild will meet Tuesday, April 2nd in the Library at 1:00 p.m.
