Coordinator's Report: Celebrating our Stars
We are so excited for the 2014 Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast coming up on Tuesday, April 8th. Not only do we love getting together with all of our awesome partners and volunteers, but we also look forward to honoring our 2014 Volunteer and Partner of the Year.

Each year, we invite our schools to nominate some of the "best of the best" from among all the individuals and partners who work alongside them each day in their school buildings. A committee reviews the submissions and chooses one from each category to honor at the Volunteer Breakfast.

This year, we have some awesome nominees - all of whom are winners to us. The following individuals are the nominees for Bright Futures Volunteer of the Year:
  • Abdonna Capria
  • Cindy Tignor
  • Claire Krueger
  • Gerald Jones
  • Melinda Gibson
  • Frank McReynolds
  • Kim Davis
  • Jenny Sherman
  • Nicole Shelley

Nominees for the Bright Futures Partner of the Year are:

  • Wildwood Baptist Church
  • PCS Phosphate
  • Qdoba
  • Mt. Hope Church of Christ
  • Fundraising Works

This small list represents an innumerable amount of time and investment in Joplin kids and schools. We're excited to honor our winners on the 8th, but even more importantly, we're grateful to the incredible people who make our schools great every single day - YOU are the stars of Bright Futures.  THANK YOU!

Serving together,

Melissa Winston

Bright Futures Council News

Welcome New Faith-Based Partner

Bright Futures Joplin is excited to announce that we have a new faith-based partner who will be serving on our Bright Futures Council at Eastmorland Elementary.  We'd like to extend a special welcome to Villa Heights Christian Church.

We are excited to have you on board.

We are looking for additional faith-based partners at several of our schools to serve on their Bright Futures Councils. If you have a partner in ministry that you think might be interested in serving, tell them how much you love it, and send them our way.

Everyday Hero Award
Bright Futures Joplin is excited that one of our own - Jarrod Hogan - was honored at the Red Cross Everyday Heroes Banquet for his work with BF Joplin through the Rebuild Joplin website. After the tornado, that website was instrumental in helping connect donors and volunteers to needs in Joplin. Since then, Rebuild has become an independent non-profit agency working hard to rebuild homes throughout the tornado zone of our community.

With or without an award, Jarrod is definitely an Everyday Hero to us. Congratulations Jarrod for a well-deserved honor.

Wear Jeans.  Support Bright Futures.  Win/Win!
I dont know about you, but I would pay just about anything to wear jeans to work.  And if I knew I could pay just $5 to help kids succeed in school AND wear jeans...that'd be a serious win for me!  What about you?

We invite all area businesses to have a Jeans Day for Bright Futures on April 17. All you do is let your team know, wear your favorite jeans, collect your cash, and support kids. Couldn't be much easier than that! To join in, call Katie at (417) 625-5200, ext. 2039.
