 Back to School Fun
Carson Health recently attended Ashley Community Schools, Carson City Lower Elementary, Fulton Elementary and the Fellowship Baptist Academy Back to School Open House events.
Over the course of two weeks, Carson Health associates generously donated everything from scissors, glue, coloring crayons, pencils and notebooks, to tissue, hand sanitizer and snacks. This supply drive made it possible for 5-6 students at each school to win a backpack filled with school supplies.
All students who attended the events received a drawstring cinch sack with one or two items to help kick off the school year. Students also received a mega-phone in their school colors to cheer on their team when attending sporting events. "One little girl went racing back to her classroom to place the pencils and erasers she received from her cinch sack in her desk, said Shelly Weaver, Volunteer Services and Marketing Coordinator."
"It is great to see all the students so excited about being back to school," said Traci Gavenda, Principal at Ashley Community Schools. "Having Carson Health at our open house added to the fun."
More than 600 students and their parents received information about immunizations, back to school tips for parents from A-Z, fun ways to encourage their children with homework and an easy to follow two-week healthy lunch menu when packing lunches. They were also given a fun craft idea to complete with their child before school started. "It was such a great surprise to see Carson Health at the open house," said Erin Reynolds, parent at Fulton Elementary. "My son was excited with the goodies."

September Safety

The transition for students heading back to school after the long summer break is always difficult. As parents, we all begin to worry about the safety of our children. Below are a few common topic to speak with your kids about.
- STRANGER DANGER- Continuously remind your kids the steps they should take if approached by a stranger.
- Be sure they know never to enter the car of a stranger.
- Teach your children to run from a stranger while shouting "HELP" loudly.
- Teach your children if a stranger approaches, find the nearest crossing guard, teacher or neighborhood parent they know.
- SAFE WALKING ROUTE - Walk your children to school as a "practice run". Be sure they know this is the only route they should take to and from school.
- TRAFFIC SAFETY- Teach basic street crossing safety. Instruct your children to always look both ways before stepping off the sidewalk or walking through a parking lot.
- BICYCLE SAFETY Riding bicycles children always need remember to follow stop signs and all other traffic signals. Children should wear a helmet every time they ride their bicycle.
- SCHOOL BUS SAFETY- Teach your children if they have to cross the street in front of the bus, they need to see the bus driver, and the bus driver should always be able to see them.
