A Word From Our President

I am very proud to announce that Greenville Family Care Center (GFCC) and Ithaca Family Care Center (IFCC) have been designated as patient-centered medical homes (PCMH) by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for 2013.

The patient-centered medical home model focuses on the primary care physician being the center of your healthcare. A patient-centered medical home works to connect the dots and coordinate your care by gathering information from specialist visits, tracking test and medication management. A key component of PCMH is the relationship that you will build with your primary care physician, which will better serve your health care needs.

Our primary care offices strive in helping patients meet their health care goals, manage chronic conditions, as well as offering extended access to our health care team. The goal for 2014 is to have each of our eight family care center become designated as a patient-centered medical home.

I encourage you to discuss the benefits of a patient-centered medical home with your provider at your next visit.

Save Money on
Back to School Supplies

Trying to save money? Use these helpful tips as you prepare your children for their return to school.

  1. Do a closet supply sweep. You probably have a number of minimally used notebooks, pencils and pens around the house.
  2. Sort through your kids clothes. Donate anything that no longer fits or is worn out. This will help you determine what is really needed.
  3. Garage sales and thrift stores are great places to look for backpacks and other gently used supplies.
  4. Host a back-to-school-swap. Round up moms you know that have children around the same age as your children. See what items you can swap. This is also a great way to trade books and toys.
  5. Set limits, teach kids money management. If they want the expensive "Justin Bieber" lunch box or binder, let them choose only one or two of these specialty items.
  6. Save on college supplies by buying text books at Amazon, eBay or Half.com. Text books can also be downloaded to an e-reader.
  7. Buy refurbished devices. Many times this can save you at 15% - 25% for that "got-to-have-it item.
  8. Always check prices online. Many times the same items are cheaper online, you can find and use coupon codes and many sites offer free shipping.
  9. Watch your timing, stock up throughout the year when you see school supply items on clearance. Generally August and January is when these items are on sale, by September and February, they tend to be on clearance.
  10. When packing lunches try to use reusable storage containers. Avoid single serving items such as jello, puddings or chips they are convenient, but expensive and can add up very quickly.
