A Word From Our President

It is with great pride that I congratulate the Carson Health Obstetrics Department on the successful completion of More OB, Module 3!

In conjunction with this great achievement, Coverys has awarded the Carson Health Obstetric Department with the 2013 Recognition Award!

Carson Health is the first hospital in the United States to participate in the program. It has been shown that most errors occur because of lack of team work, communication, trust and respect. The MoreOB program is a proven patient safety solution that creates a working environment where hierarchy, communication gaps and uncoordinated teamwork are all eliminated. This program is being utilized throughout the organization and has helped Carson Health achieve a Leapfrog grade of "A" for three consecutive reporting periods.

We are grateful for the commitment from the Obstetric Department in providing top-notch care and service excellence to our community. Accomplishments like these strengthen the high quality and accessible care our patients have come to expect.

American Red Cross Blood Drive at Carson Health

Carson Health hosted a Blood Drive June 3. Statistics show that one in every ten people who enter the hospital will need blood. With one unit of blood there is the potential to save three lives. We are very excited to say we exceeded our goal of 25 pints and collected 29 pints! These 29 pints could mean the difference to 87 lives. Thank you to all who were able to donate!

Carson Health will host its next blood drive August 9. To find a blood drive in your area click RedCross.org.

Kids Health & Safety Day

Manager of Carson Health Food and Nutrition Services, Anne Parcher educated parents and kids first hand on how much sugar in is beverages.  "We filled bags with the amount of sugar in the beverages because we wanted parents to see what 64 grams of sugar in a Sprite really looked like". Water was given out as a sugar-free alternative, reminding kids water is always a good choice. Click here to read more about the event.

Inexpensive Family Fun

Looking for some fun inexpensive things to do with your children during summer vacation? Take a look at the list below and see how many your family can check off the list.

1. Pack an old sheet or blanket and have a picnic in the park. Eating lunch on the ground is fun for kids. Afterward they can play and run off some energy.  Don't want to pack the food and drive to the park, spread out the blanket in the back yard for lunch.

2. Book Club. Take the kids to the library each week. Have them pick out a book, read it with them each day and ask them questions about the story.

3. Pack the sunscreen, life jackets, and beach towels and take family to a local public beach for the day.

4. Put together a Minute to Win It competition with your family. Everyone will have tons of fun.

Click Minute to Win It for over 150 great ideas, including an option to print out rules and directions for each game. Most items needed you will already have around the house.

5. Create a Scavenger hunt. Hide different items around your house when they go to bed.

6.  Living Room Idol. Have your kids dress up, do their hair wild and let them belt out their favorite song.

7. Plant a small garden that your family can care for together. This is a great way for your children to be involved in smack and meal preparation for the family.

8. Bonfire in the back yard. Gather wood, cook dinner, sing songs, and make s'mores.

9. Take a nature walk or send your kids on an insect hunt around the yard. See how many different bugs they can find.

10. Collect rocks and see what animals they can create by painting and gluing them together.
