On March 28th we were able to show appreciation and say thank you to all of our physicians and mid-level providers. Carson Health has phenomenal providers who, in every encounter with their patients show compassion and dediction. Even though the national recognition day has passed, you can still honor your provider by taking a moment to say thank you in observance of Docters Day 2013.

The three day expo provided CH the opportunity to reach hundreds of women. A special feature at the event was the mobile da Vinci Surgical System, which provided hundreds of women  a hands-on experience to learn about the revolution in surgery.

 Colorectal Cancer Awareness

Colorectal Cancer (cancer of the colon and rectum) affects both men and women. It is the second leading cancer killer in the United States. Colorectal cancer, if not found in time is almost always fatal. It is however, curable if caught early.

The American Cancer Society recommends a colonscopy for men and women over 50 years of age, or younger, if there is a family history of colorectal cancer. "Screenings save lives," said Robert Boorstein, D.O.

Symptoms include weight loss, stomach pain, and blood in the stool. Nonetheless, some people don't experience these symptoms. Screenings allow your doctor to find precancerous polyps that can be removed before they turn into cancer. "The only thing worse than finding out that your patient has cancer, is finding out too late," remarked Dr. Boorstein.

Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring is here, or so the calendar says. Here are some tips to help you get your spring cleaning complete.

1. Organizing your closet is a big job. Donate any clothes you have not worn in the last year to your local thrift shop. An organized closet will help in everyday routine.

2. Cleaning the walls is a huge chore, set a goal and tackle one or two rooms a night, don't try and do the entire house in one day.

3. Martha Stewart says using a rubber-edged squeegee will make cleaning your windows quicker and more effective than a cloth or newspaper.

4. Give your floors the protection they need by replacing protectors on the undersides of furniture legs if they are worn. Spring cleaning is also a good time to give your kitchen cabinets a wipe down.

5. Deep clean your carpeting and rugs with a shampooer/extractor or contact a professional cleaning company.

6. Vacuum, steam-clean, or dry-clean curtains.

7. Replace Batteries in your smoke detectors.

8. Cleaning out your refrigerator is a daunting task, but it is important to pull out all the racks and bins and wash them. Be sure to vacuum dust from the condenser coils and underneath.

9. This is always a good time to change the direction of your ceiling fan. Remember Counterclockwise provides a breeze in the warm summer months, while clockwise will help redistribute the war air in the winter months. This can usually be done with the click of a switch at the base of the fan.

10. Clean out your medicine cabinet. Properly discard any outdated medications.
