A Word From Our President
Did you know hospitals get report card grades? Grades are determined by a group called The Leapfrog Group. It is made up of a nine-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel of patient safety experts. This group of highly educated individuals review 26 evidence-based measures to determine "grades" for hospitals throughout the United States. Measures include processes, outcomes and structure. The grades reflect overall performance in the ability of a hospital to keep their patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. I encourage you to take a minute and see what grade Carson Health received. Without giving away the surprise, I can tell you that this is an amazing organization with extremely talented providers and staff. Visit www.hospitalsafetyscore.org to see Carson and surrounding hospital scores.

Visitor Guidelines at Carson Health The influenza season is in full swing this year. In an effort to provide quality care to our patients, Carson Health has adjusted the visitor guidelines until further notice. It is important if you have any symptom of illness that you refrain from visiting a patient. "The only way we can protect those whose health is already compromised is to avoid contact with those with symptoms," states Nancy Seals, Infection Prevention Coordinator. "Good hand hygiene, and vaccinations will help decrease the spread of this disease. The current visitor guidelines can be found on our web site, or by clicking here. |

Carson Health Associates Bring Awareness to a Deadly Disease
February is National heart disease month. On February 1, Carson Health associates wore red in the fight to increase awareness of heart disease in women. Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans. It is important to know your family history, your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and keep a healthy lifestyle. There are simple everyday changes that you can do to help fight heart disease. Small changes such as using spices to season your food instead of salt, exercise daily, and stop smoking.
Through our Carson Health Cardiopulmonary department we offer many outpatient services including nuclear stress testing, echocardiography (ECHO), stress echocardiograms, electrocardiogram (ECG), elctroencephlograms (EEG), cardiac event monitoring and holter monitoring. To see a full list of Cardiopulmonary services and physicians within the department please visit our web site at CarsonHealth.org. |
Become a Force with Nature Every year we hear of ordinary people doing extraordinary things to help neighbors, friends and family through horrific weather situations. Just last year there were nearly 2,600 injuries and more than 450 weather-related fatalities. March 3-9, 2013 is National Severe Weather Preparedness Week. The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and FEMA challenge you to Be a Force of Nature by becoming better prepared for severe weather. Stay Healthy
Staying healthy during the influenza season can be difficult. Follow these steps to keep yourself healthy this season. Keep in mind that people infected with the flu can infect others beginning one day before symptoms develop and up to 5-7 days after becoming sick.
1. If you haven't already gotten your influenza vaccine, there is still time.
2. Wash your hands often with soap and water.
3. Avoid touching your eyes nose and mouth.
4. Sneeze or cough into a tissue then throw the tissue in the trash.
5. If you or your child have the flu, you should stay home for at least 24 hours.
6. If possible, try to avoid contact with sick people.
