Dear Land-Based Learning Supporter,
With the holidays upon us, there is more time for giving thanks and finding significance in everyday life. It's a good time for reflection, family and friends. It's also a good time to give and to receive.
As I age and may be now considered an "older farmer," I can look back 20 years and am happy with what our family farm and my writing has accomplished. I smile at high points and shrug with the other times - and believe I've left behind something significant. That's what the Center for Land-Based Learning has also accomplished in the last 20 years - created something significant.
Over 10,000 high school aged youth have received hands-on experience, while learning about the healthy interplay between agriculture, nature and society in Land-Based Learning programs. They have gained leadership experience by planning and implementing community action projects - projects that make a difference in their own communities -- focused on food, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.
The Land-Based Learning's programs have touched adults - would be farmers! - too. The California Farm Academy class of 2013, nineteen brand-new farmers, recently graduated from their rigorous training program. This program -- training real farmers to do real farm work - is the only one of it's kind in California!
Will you now help me celebrate and support their great work?

The Center for Land-Based Learning field days - in fact, all of the programs of Land-Based Learning -- help connect the work us farmers do with a public hungry to learn. Land-Based Learning has created something significant.
It's a story that needs to be shared - and that's why I hope you'll listen to an "older farmer" and his request: let's launch the Center for Land-Based Learning into another 20 years of significance.
