  Mission...Possible!

Train up a child in the way he should go,and when he is old he will not depart from it.  Proverbs 22:6

A group of children, ages 8-11, were a great model of mission last week at Mission Possible Kids  Camp.  They bagged food in the Food Pantry and made banners to hang on the walls of the pantry.  They toured all locations of the ARC of Caddo-Bossier, singing for the children, dancing with the adults at Frost Industries, and visiting the horses used for equine therapy with disabled children.  They prepared lunch for the Adult Learning Center students, eating and visiting with them.  And to show their appreciation for our Shreveport Police officers, they baked and delivered cookies, and were given a tour of the Police Dept. and they even got to meet the Chief of Police!

We hope these children are learning lifelong lessons about serving their neighbors in the name of Christ, and learning who our neighbors are and how to reach out to them.  Good lessons and examples for us all.

Serving in love,

Rachel Scott

Minister of Service & Outreach

Scholarship News and a Thank-You

Congratulations to the following Noel members receiving scholarships for their college studies. The Centenary scholarship fund provides $1,000 per year per student and is able to provide scholarships for non-Noel members and interns working in various areas of the church.  Funds for students attending other schools are more limited, with a total of $9,169 ($655 per student) being distributed this year. Your contributions to this fund are always needed and appreciated. All of these young people have worked very hard and their grades and accomplishments reflect that. Please congratulate them when you see them!

Dear Noel Family,

I'm so excited to share with you my good news. This year I have graduated from Perkins School of Theology and I have been commissioned as a provisional elder of the  Louisiana Conference. My years at Noel were very formative in my call to ordained ministry, and I want to thank you for your teaching and guidance, prayers, financial support, and kind words over the many years I have been a part of your family. I cannot possibly express to you how much you all mean to me, and I know I am so very blessed to have been one of you and to have been raised by you. I hope that you will continue to keep me in your prayers, keep in touch, and keep extending the arm of Christian fellowship, service, hospitality, and love to all who walk through your doors. Know that my life was forever changed by the great ministry that God does through you. My prayers are with you always.

Your sister in Christ,  Rev. Rachel McConnell-Switzer

UMC Market -Please Sign Up!

In February of this year, we ran an article about UMCmarket, an easy way to create revenue for our church with on-line shopping.  To make it easier for you to sign up, you can now go to Noel's website, www.noelumc.org, and click on the "UMCMarket" box.  There are even "easy button" apps on smart phones  to make shopping on-line through UMCMarket second nature.  It's an easy way to make a big impact. For example,if you are going to purchase something from Barnes & Noble anyway, you can go to www.umcmarket.org, and search Barnes & Noble under "Shop at UMC Market."  You will be taken to the Barnes & Noble site, but your purchase amount will be recorded for donation purposes.

There are hundreds of retailers listed in many categories:  travel, beauty, electronics, fashion, etc.  with places you already shop online such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Office Depot, Sears, etc.  It's amazing how many retailers are giving a percentage, averaging from 2-7%  of your purchase, back to churches.  When the donations reach $100, a check is sent to the church.  It's that simple.  All the donations from retailers are added automatically to Noel's account.  How Simple is that?  If you have questions or need help, please contact the Church Office at 221-5207.  THANK YOU!

1. Register on Noel's website, clicking on the link on the main page, or  go to www.umcmarket.org.

Once on the site register with your email and password.

2.   Select to "join your home church"-Noel's is (Noel Memorial Shreveport).

3.  Confirm your information when the verification email is sent to you, then start shopping!

Skeeter Run 2014

The 2014 Louisiana Skeeter Run will be held in six cities, with a run in five of the six districts and a race at The Wesley Center in Woodworth. All of the runs will be held Oct. 11, except the Shreveport event, which is scheduled for August 9, in conjunction with a special Mission Weekend hosted by First UMC in Shreveport!

COLLECTING:

The Noel Community Arts Program is still collecting watercolor palettes to give out at the August Highland Blessing Dinner. We have been making "Art in a Bag" art kits to give out to the children at every third Thursday's dinner. However, we have noticed that many of the adults want to take some art home with them as well! We are trying to gather 140 palettes so EVERY PERSON at the dinner on August 21, can take home an art kit.   Help us reach our goal to give art to those in need!

COLLECTING:  NCAP is collecting buttons for some art projects we are doing with the students who are working on their GEDs through the Adult Learning Center. If you have any buttons you can spare, just put them in a bag and drop them off at the bins around the Noel campus. Thanks for your help!

Ninja Turtles in Art

Are your kids totally into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Well, help them learn about the dudes behind the character names - artists Michelangelo, Leonardo, Donatello and Rafael. Each week in the month of August, NCAP teachers will help students learn about these artists and create a masterpiece that represents the type of work each of them was known for.

The classes are held Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 6 p.m.
