"Thanks for all the work you have done for us. Looks like the work you did several years ago is still functioning perfectly. Good job and thanks so much." -David Sledge, Ranger for Willamette USFS
CAST Partnership
MLK has been invited to work with Bethel Scool District on their CAST project. CAST is a five-year project that seeks to improve child health in the Bethel School District. The project includes seven elementary schools with an enrollment of nearly 3,000 students. CAST is a unique community-based participatory program in that it brings together schools, local organizations, and families to assess and respond to children's health and nutrition needs at both a school and community level. MLK's main role in the program is to provide healthy, nutritious food to the children and families participating in the study. CAST was very interested in partnering with MLK because the element of education expanded into OUR kitchen as we teach MLK youth to prepare and try these healthy dishes for themselves. Damon Phillips has been chosen for the October student of the month for a variety of reasons. Damon has had
perfect attendance since the semester began and a positive attitude. Staff have noticed Damon's willingness to participate in elective activities, and his academic involvement in the classroom.
