Congratulations go out to our Human Resources Manager John Viarella and SharePoint Administrator Ron Crisswell for winning DAI's Shout Out Award! John and Ron collaborated to develop an automated performance management system that streamlines multiple internal processes and eliminates our paper-based system. Contenders Take On the DAI February Fitness Challenge
At DAI, we believe that being healthy is the foundation of a thriving workforce. And this month, we put that theory to the test. DAI employees have undertaken the February Fitness Challenge that requires participants to exercise at least thirty minutes every day in February. This includes a wide variety of activities from intense cardio workouts to walking, pick-up sports and yoga. Winners will be treated to a celebratory - but healthy - lunch. Congratulations to all involved!

Workforce Planning and Development Spotlight
Workforce Development in an Environment of Cutbacks By Kisha Garcia, Human Capital Consultant, DAI
The current economic climate, coupled with changing demographics, increasingly poses significant challenges to organizations. Fiscal and demographic realities have created a ripple effect throughout organizations, making it difficult to maintain the level of skills in the quantities needed to sustain or improve efficiency, productivity and performance. Organizations are expected to do more with less. Additionally many organizations are faced with:
- Aging workforce
- High turnover
- Hiring freezes
According to a March 2008 study conducted by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), over 49 percent of permanent full-time federal employees will be eligible to retire in 2013. As a result, the looming potential for a rise in retirements due to an aging workforce increases the inability of organizations to retain people with the institutional knowledge and senior-level expertise necessary to meet their goals. Current and pending funding cuts will continue to make it even more difficult to incentivize and retain highly skilled professionals, resulting in increasing turnover rates in some organizations. | |

A 2010 joint report from the Partnership for Public Service and Booz Allen Hamilton concludes that overall attrition rates for government employees are lower than in the private sector, but are alarmingly high among mission-critical employees and new hires. Increasing turnover rates, driven in large measure by the competitive environment for highly skilled professionals and the large number of retirement-eligible employees, may reduce the availability of skilled employees to unacceptable levels within organizations. Budget cuts have resulted in the implementation of hiring freezes and pay freezes, both of which increase the difficulty of acquiring people with the skills needed to fill key positions as employees leave and organizational missions evolve and expand. Unfortunately, organizations tend to deal with these workforce transitions and challenges in a reactionary manner. To successfully meet these challenges, organizations must develop innovative training and preparation programs to creatively utilize their workforce to fill critical positions and maintain skill levels. DAI understands the increasing need to recruit, retain and develop a highly skilled workforce that is focused on results. DAI provides full cycle workforce planning and development solutions for our clients. We assess skills and competency levels through surveys, which gives leadership and HR professionals an integrated approach that aims to implement and retain a high-quality, diverse workforce. In addition, DAI is prepared to provide our clients with:
- Innovative training and preparation programs to fill critical positions and maintain skill levels
- Strategic recruitment and branding efforts to attract highly skilled and motivated candidates to fill key and mission critical positions
- Retention strategies to reduce the turnover of highly-skilled employees
- Techniques to preserve institutional knowledge and maintain operations
- Work process redesign to increase productivity, improve services to customers and reduce operating costs

DAI Wins GSA Virtual Event Platform BPA
| |
In February, GSA's Office of Credit Card Management (OCCM) awarded DAI a Virtual Event Platform and Support Services BPA. Like many agencies, GSA is looking for engaging and cost-effective ways to connect, inform and educate its geographically dispersed workforce while facing cutbacks in travel and training budgets. Under this BPA, DAI will provide GSA with solutions to virtualize training, conferences and other events while maintaining employee engagement and satisfaction. This migration to a Web-based approach will provide GSA employees with greater accessibility to on-demand and 24/7 education and learning resources. Change management and communications will be central to our efforts to engage GSA's workforce and facilitate information sharing and dialogue.
"This is a tremendous win for DAI as it affords our team the opportunity to provide essential virtual event services to GSA as they engage their workforce," said Blake Myers, DAI's VP of Business Operations. "We're looking forward to supporting GSA as they continue to develop their 21st century workforce using best-in-breed technology."
