Just Think Outside
...the place for creativity
Welcome

Though spring officially arrived in March it now finally looks like spring in northeast Tennessee.  After the long cold winter we experienced it is wonderful to see green leaves and blooming wildflowers.

Last week I spent two days photographing in the Greenbrier/Gatlinburg area. The photographs I made were quite diverse.  They include blooms along the trails in Greenbrier, an old school, and even a Ferris wheel.

I hope you enjoy them.

Take care,

Jeffrey

  Abundance

"As long as we are persistent in pursuit of our deepest destiny, we will continue to grow. We cannot choose the day or time when we will fully bloom. It happens in its own time".

The above image was made on the Porter Creek Trail near Gatlinburg.

Porters Creek and the Middle Prong converge to form the Little Pigeon River in the Great Smoky Mountains.

  Signs of Spring

The blooming dogwoods signify that spring has arrived in the Great Smoky Mountains.  This image was made on Porters Creek just prior to it converging with the Middle Prong to form the Little Pigeon River.

The dogwood blossoms had fallen and highlighted this trail through the Smoky Mountains.  This image was made on the Porters Creek Trail.

 School Days

This is the Island View School in Sevier County, Tennessee.  The school was named for the view of Buckingham Island in the French Broad River which can be seen across the road from the school.

The original school was built in the late 1890s. In the fall of 1917 a tornado destroyed the school and a new one had to be built.  There was no electricity, running water or indoor bathrooms.  Water was pumped by hand, the school was heated by a wood stove and there was an outhouse.

The school closed in 1948 after the Boyd's Creek School was opened.

  Colors in the Night

The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel is 200 feet tall and each gondola can seat up to eight people.

Blossoms and blooms

On the waft of morning mist,
the morning dew freshens the day
as birds' morning songs jumble
in a boiling pot of notes.

The heavy sweet scent of lilacs' bloom
takes me to where I once lived and
the white four-petaled flower on gnarled limbs
takes me to the dogwood days of my youth.

Daytime descends,
where limbs lace and
treetop branches brush the blush
of the evening sky.

As moments turn to days and
seasons to years,
memories remain of life
passed into past.

What's ahead
when the blossoms and blooms will once again
sweeten my nose and caress my eye and
sunrise and moonset bookend the morning sky?
