Just Think Outside
...the place for creativity
Welcome

I've always loved sunflowers.

The first time I spent time photographing them was in Hershey Pennsylvania in 2006. There was a field of sunflowers close to the chocolate factory and I would go there at dawn or near sunset to make images.

We moved to Tennessee in 2007 and until this year I never found large fields of sunflowers. In July I was delighted to discover that about two hours away from where we live there are acres of sunflowers planted as part of a wildlife management program.

I was thrilled to once again revel in the beauty of sunflowers.

Take care,
Jeffrey

 The Glorious Sunflower

"If I were a flower.. I would be a sunflower.  To always follow the sun, turn my back to darkness, stand proud, tall and straight even with my head full of seeds."

Moon Over the Sun

I rode my bicycle over the nature trails to get to this spot. The clouds were beginning to turn pink and the moon was still visible when I snapped the shutter.

 Sunflower Fields Forever

This field of sunflowers seemed to go on forever. The image was also made just before dawn on a beautiful summer day.

A Summer Mix

I love the mix of colors of the yellow sunflower and the blues and purples of the morning glories.

Gallery  / Exhibition / Publications Updates

I will be giving a talk titled The Camera, Technology and Art at Eastern Tennessee State University's Kingsport Alliance for Continued Learning.  It is scheduled for Thursday November 20th, from 10am until noon.

The first photograph was made in 1826.  The camera, and the processes for making prints, have gone through many changes over the past 189 years.   From wooden boxes and light sensitive paper to mirror-less digital cameras, and from chemical darkrooms to Photoshop, photographers have striven to use these changing technologies to make art.  I will be highlighting the changing technologies and their impact on the art of the photograph.
