From the Access Control Committee
|
By Tommy Walter
October means first of all Halloween, and being watchful for all the children trick or treating. Second, there was a very fine article in last month's newsletter about the new left turn lanes off Southside into Deercreek. Courtesy and watchfulness are the key words here. Last, as always, please enter guests names in the gate system before any social event. That will speed up guest access tremendously.

Years ago, Comcast offered a revenue sharing program to the Deercreek Homeowners Association. Over the years, this revenue has helped offset expenses for the association. Currently our revenue from this program is increasing and the budget this year is close to $40,000. Ch
anges or upgrades in Comcast services as well as an increase in the number of new residents reflect the increase in this revenue. This increase continues to be on the rise and the HOA would be hard pressed to make up the difference. Without this revenue, each resident could possibly see an increase in assessments. Revenue of $40,000 relates to approximately $60. per household.

Deercreek Home and Garden Club
|
By Patty Tomka
Oct. 27 - 10:00 AM at the Club Barbara Langston's Antique Roadshow
Do you have an ugly 'Family Heirloom' gathering dust on a shelf? Could it be worth something? Barbara Langston is coming to Deercreek to tell you what it is and if it is worth more than sentimental value. She has been entertaining us with stories about the unique items brought in for appraisals over the years. Her knowledge is vast and she is both fun and interesting. She knows her stuff so bring along a treasure for appraisal at the October 27th meeting and prepare to be amazed!
Cheryl Rowan will be hosting a Silpada Jewelry Sale also, so come with your Christmas list in hand. She always gives a percentage of the sales back to the Garden Club to fund our projects so we all benefit. Read More>>> Deercreek Home and Garden Club, where no one is a stranger for long.

The Deercreek Women's Alliance
Spotlight on Charity: The RITA Foundation
|
The RITA Foundation (Research Is The Answer) was started in 1996 to help raise funds for breast cancer research in the Jacksonville area. To date, the foundation has raised over $4 million dollars. From its humble beginnings by Chuck and Nancy Jantz it grew to several different events ranging from, tennis tournaments, black-tie gala, 5K run, and a golf tournament. SenioRITAs at Sawgrass was developed by a group of ladies under the RITA umbrella, catering to age appropriate tennis called SenioRITA (40-54) and (55+). This year, SenioRITA matches will be held 16-17-18 October, at the Sawgrass Country Club. All proceeds from all of these events are donated to local hospitals and research programs only in the Jacksonville area.

| Ronald McDonald House - Halloween Costume Drive |
It's not too early to start thinking about Halloween costumes! We had such a phenomenal success last year with our Halloween costume drive for the Ronald McDonald House - we are doing it again this October. The children were SO excited to have brand new Halloween costumes of their own, and it certainly made a difference, distracting them from the difficult times they are experiencing.
We are collecting new, unopened
Halloween costumes between October 1 and 23 (sorry, due to the health of the children used costumes are not accepted). Suggested sizes are anywhere from toddler to young 'tweens' with Halloween accessories being the most preferred items (i.e. animal ears and tails and hats).
So remember as you are shopping, please consider picking up a small item that could be utilized by the RMHC for Halloween and drop it in the marked bin at the guard gate or at Barbara Smiths' house: 7804 Blakeford Mill Lane or 716-1734.

Probably a little early but Halloween is coming up on Saturday October 31st ; Max & Carson and the girls will be ready for the Trick or Treaters!! Halloween is a great time to get together with some of your neighbors and do group Halloween Party for the kids. We had over 80 kids come by last year and they all had a blast. We also got to spend some fun time with our neighbors. Halloween is still alive in the Creek!
