School is now or soon will be out for the summer.  Please be watchful of children and various sized bicycles moving about on the community roads, as well as golf carts driven by younger drivers.

On a different note (If the past is any indicator of the future), when school is not in session, vandalism activities increase. Be watchful for any activities that do not appear to be appropriate and let the guard gate know about them.

The View: June 2015

By Rita Allen & Connie Davis

In the morning of April 14, 2015, the Deercreek Home and Garden Club hosted a well-attended golf cart tour, which enabled many non-golfers to become acquainted with the landscapes of our neighbors' back yards in addition to street scenes.  As a result of this tour and by popular acclaim, the Deercreek View for June 2015 has been awarded to the home of Vicki and Charlie Khan, 10148 Deercreek Club East.  With its wide, open porches, the sweeping back view looks upon much of the 17th hole and fairway.

Fashion Show
By Patty Tomka

Our Fashion Show this year, on the 24th of March was wonderful and we have so many people to thank for that. Our decorating committee made the room beautiful with hydrangeas in pottery watering cans with colorful paper lanterns and spring colors. Our Silent Auction Room was filled with great items and many coupons that were so generously donated by our neighbors. Some of these businesses have been supporting our Fashion Show for years and we want to make sure you know who they are so you can make an effort to patronize them and use their services.

Special Projects

We combine our efforts with the Deercreek Common Property Committee to help keep Deercreek beautiful. We're delighted to take this opportunity to show you one of our big projects this year. The Ligustrum tree in front of the Deercreek signs has been slowly dying of old age. After years of patching it up, our Special Projects Committee (Charlotte Johnson, Sandy Montgomery and Cary Flynn) finally decided to replace it. This required a crane to lift out the old one and put the new one in!  Our new tree is full and beautiful and healthy and should grace our entrance for a long time.

"Deercreek Home and Garden Club, where no one is a stranger for long."

Literary Circle
By Mary Louise Selzer

In June we will be reading The Invention of Wings, by Sue Monk Kidd. Hetty "Handful" Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke's daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

Inspired by the historical figure of Sarah Grimke, Kidd goes beyond the record to flesh out the rich interior lives of all of her characters, both real and invented, including Handful's cunning mother, Charlotte, who courts danger in her search for something better.

Real Estate News

Springtime brings lots of outside activity to Deercreek. From the Member-Guest Golf Tournament, the Garden Club Tour, to neighbors taking to the streets to walk, run or ride bikes. What a great time to live in Deercreek! The community is blossoming like the flowers. Spring is also an active time in real estate. Neighbors put their homes on the market to sell and move in time for school to start in August.  Others are looking to buy a home here and enjoy all the amenities a community like ours has to offer.

Personally, it is a busy time for me in Deercreek.  I have a buyer looking for the right home in Deercreek; a seller ready to close in early June; an out of town buyer who has submitted an offer on a home sight unseen; and a seller trying to decide when is the right time to put their home on the market.

Interest rates are still low and that helps support the continued activity in Deercreek.  According to NEFAR MLS as of 5/8/15, there are 11 homes on the market, with prices from $329,900 - $925,000, and the list price ranges from $119.11 to $168.70 per square foot. Six homes are under contract with prices ranging from $379,000 to $674,900, and size from 2499 to 6164 square feet. These homes under contract have been on the market from 37 to 119 days.

Four homes sold and closed in Deercreek over the three month period ending 5/8/2015, with prices from $385,000 to a high of $545,000, and an average square foot price of $141.50, up slightly from $139.53. These homes range from 2878 to 3662 square feet and were on the market an average of 110 days, with a high of 185 days. Spring brings sunny days and it's a good time to buy or sell a home in Deercreek!
