Donor Spotlight -
Dr. Grace Cho

Dr. Cho shares how her life has been touched by the children in Africa:

I started the sponsorship to three children in Kenya through Discover the World about four years ago. As I reflect the time of God's calling in this ministry, I did not have any expectations at all.  I just hoped that my giving each month would provide a secure shelter, necessities, education, and medical needs to the orphaned children.  Well... Over the years, I have received so many loving letters and photos from the children who have touched my heart deeply. Despite their circumstances, the children are happy and enthusiastic in whatever they do.  They have hopes and dreams of becoming someone significant in their society. But most of all, they feel the presence of the love of Jesus Christ in everyday life. Their heartfelt appreciations and continuous prayers for me have transformed my life and humbled each day to follow Jesus.  I pray that one day, I will have an opportunity to embrace them all, in my arms and tell them how much I love them. Thank you, Morgan, Consolata, Shadrack, and Purity for your love and prayers... Thank you, Discover the World for your dedication to these children...   Grace Cho, DDS

Student Spotlight -
2013-2014 Girl Scout Gold Award Recipient
Kayla Grahn

Congratulations to Kayla! La Canada, California's own Kayla Grahn recently earned the highest honor bestowed by the Girl Scouts of America, for her work helping young children in Kenya during her visit there in the summer of 2013. Kayla is the 6th Girl Scout Gold Award winner sponsored by Discover the World.

Through your support she was able to collect running clothes, as well as purchase running shoes for the children at Shelter Children's Center in Nairobi, Kenya. She had the opportunity to connect with the children and share her passion for running during a 2-day running clinic. In addition, Kayla created a documentary about Discover the World and posted it on YouTube. The video has been shared at various DTW events and can also be found on the Home Page at www.discovertheworld.org

"I [am] sincerely grateful for your support during my Gold Award experience. Thank you so much for providing me your time, guidance, or donations; I couldn't have done it without you! ... This project taught me so much about leadership, gratitude, and that sharing what you love can really make a difference. I hope to return back one day and continue what I started!" ~Kayla Grahn

I recently did a Google Image search for paintings of "Jesus with Children", and of the hundreds and hundreds of images, one stood out to me.  It shows Christ holding a dark-skinned child, presumably in Africa, while he is casting a concerned glance back over his shoulder.  I can't get the image out of my mind, and am asking myself, "What is he seeing?  Who is he looking at?"  After several days I finally have decided that he sees....more children in need, and knows the challenges that await anyone who will "Go into all the world", and find them, rescue them, and bring them to himself.  And that pretty much sums up the very purpose of Discover the World: to seek out orphans and vulnerable children, and bring them to the feet of the Lord.

Thank you for joining with us this past month in your sacrificial giving, to help us in that very challenging and vitally important task.  We do so in the name of the one who stares back at them, and at us, and says: "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you".  John 14:18.
