Greetings!

Discover the World is blessed by the most dedicated and devoted Board of Directors one could ever imagine, as you can see when you click on this website link.

With this little paragraph I wish to show my love and appreciation to each one of them. These five individuals are the critical leaders chosen by God as the ones "behind the scenes" who establish our policies, insure our financial integrity to you the donors, oversee the work of our staff (myself included) and continually pray for God's guidance in all we do. Each has been to our projects in Kenya, each are faithful donors, and each volunteer many hours sacrificially to guide us forward.

As the president of our rapidly growing ministry, I could not exist without them, nor can I imagine being governed by a finer group of Godly people. The Bible tells us that "By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established" (Proverbs 24:3). Through God's guidance, this board's wisdom guides the many critical decisions, which now affect the lives of hundreds of children and staff half a world away. Please pause and join with me in giving thanks to the Lord for those who serve and those who govern, and in the case of my board, those who do both.

Blessings to each of you,

Doug Millham

President

November Updates

Feature: Natasha Kamat

Natasha Kamat is a senior in Michigan who tragically lost her mother a year ago to a sudden brain aneurysm. Her father took this as a teaching opportunity for his two daughters, wanting to show them that as horrible as the loss of their mother was, they were still very blessed. An internet search by Natasha led her to Mary's Sheltered Children Center's website. As with Indian tradition, her family traveled back to India to spread her mother's ashes in the water and added an extension of their trip to Kenya.

Natasha's time spent at Mary's was amazing and full of joy. Simply being with the children put a smile on her face. She was astounded at how grateful and happy the children were even though they had so little and had survived such horrendous obstacles. Many of the children were shy but still had plenty of questions for her father about college and how to attend without the funds necessary. This concern by the children gripped Natasha and she felt inspired to do something to help these children who had completely transformed the way she viewed life.

She returned home to the United States after her trip and immediately began a fundraiser for the children headed to college. Natasha contacted all of her family and friends, and used her mother's legacy as an inspiration for everyone involved with the fundraising. With the help of her family and friends, Natasha was able to raise over $6,000.00 for these students. We at DTW are extremely grateful for Natasha and her family, and wish her nothing but the best as she embarks on her own college journey!

Prayer Requests: Kenya National Exams

The end of the calendar year brings the Kenya National Examinations for the children who have finished their primary or secondary education. These tests determine the high school or university placement for the students and are an extremely important milestone in their academic careers. We have 28 students sitting for these examinations and ask that you join us as we pray for peace and wisdom for the children taking the tests. May God guide them through the test with ease and help them all continue on their path to success.

We have a very exciting summer coming up in 2013! Christa Peitzman, our Short Term Missions Coordinator, will be leading a group of La Canada Presbyterian Church high school students to Kenya from June 22 - July 6th. We had a packed information session two weeks ago with new and returning faces alike, and are looking forward to taking the interested students out to Kenya on an unforgettable faith journey.

Summer 2013 also brings the introduction of our Adult Volunteer program in Kenya. Christa will be spending six weeks in Kenya next summer to not only lead youth trips, but to also oversee adult volunteers who will travel out to Kenya to assist Mary at Sheltered Children's Home with various tasks.

Applications are available for download on our website. Please don't hesitate to reach out to Christa with any questions at christa@discovertheworld.org.
