Special Invite To Heroes Homecoming II
Dear Army's Army Partners and Members,
In 2011, Fayetteville/Cumberland County hosted the first ever Heroes Homecoming to honor all of our brave Vietnam veterans. This year, American's First Military Sanctuary Community will pay tribute to the 1.5 million servicemen and women who participated in the Iraq War through a series of celebrations, discussions and fellowship.
Hosted by the Army's Army and the
Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Heroes Homecoming II will give our brave Iraq War veterans the welcome home they so richly deserve.
Heroes Homecoming II will take place November 9-11, culminating on Veterans Day 2012. The events will include:
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2012
Book Signing - 'The Making of Our Warrior' by Jeff Falkel
Where: Airborne & Special Operations Museum (ASOM)
When: 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Green Beret, Chris Falkel's heroism during Operation Enduring Freedom saved the lives of 16 Afghan National Army Soldiers, and everyone else in his detachment. For his actions that day, SSG Falkel was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. Jeff Falkel, Chris' father, wrote a book about their moving bond, which takes the reader on an emotional journey through the harrowing battles of the war, as seen through the eyes of the father.
Flag Dedication Ceremony and Paver Unveiling
Where: ASOM
When: 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
A formal flag dedication ceremony will be held at ASOM to honor Medal of Honor recipients and KIAs from Operation Iraqi Freedom. There will also be a ceremony honoring fallen soldier, SPC Carl D. Hall II, a member of the 325 AIR; 82nd Airborne Division, who gave the ultimate sacrifice. His paver stone will be unveiled and installed in front of the Iron Mike statue at the ASOM.

Veterans Day Car Show
Where: Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum
When: 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
This Car Show/Cruise-in is a must-see for any car lover. There is no entry fee, and awards are given in several categories. Sponsored by the Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum.
Veterans Day Parade
Where: Downtown Fayetteville
When: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Sponsored by the Cumberland County Veterans Council, the parade will run through downtown Fayetteville (Hay Street) in celebration of US soldiers. Equipment displays, rifle routines and marching bands will put on a show of pride unlike any other.
**Army's Army volunteers will be handing out Thank You banners to hold up during the parade. Banners will also be available in the November 9th issue of the Fayetteville Observer.**
Opening Ceremony
Where: North Carolina Veterans Park
When:12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
Sponsored by the North Carolina Veterans Park and the City of Fayetteville.
Family Day
Where: North Carolina Veterans Park
When: 1:30 - 4:00 p.m.
After the official Veterans Day Parade there will be an afternoon of fun and entertainment that's perfect for the entire family. This event will feature children's games, activities and live music. Food vendors will also be on site. Sponsored by the North Carolina Veterans Park, the City of Fayetteville and the Army's Army.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2012
POW/MIA Vigil
Where: ASOM
When: 12:00 - 8:00 p.m.
The Airborne and Special Operations Museum Foundation (ASOMF) and Rolling Thunder will be conducting a vigil starting at noon. There will also be service members guarding the POW/MIA table at this time.
