ARMY'S ARMY HAPPENINGS
We would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays!
Kids Take to the Woods for Boot Camp!
On Saturday, December 17, children of fallen soldiers in Fayetteville/Cumberland County got to enjoy an all-day military boot camp. “Special Friends Ops,” which was put on by the Army’s Army, in conjunction with Fort Bragg’s Survivor Outreach Services and the SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape) program, was a day to remember.
SERE instructor, Gordon Smith, instantly got the kids’ attention when he introduced the first guest: a very large and intimidating (but not poisonous) snake! The kids were then broken up into small groups, where they proceeded into the woods to build shelters using only leaves and trees. They also learned how to magically and safely start a fire with next to nothing.
Special thanks to our partner, Outback Steakhouse, for providing lunch at the event and to Gordon Smith and his SERE team who organized a unique experience for these children and their families.
Thank you to everyone involved. This was truly a special event. Please visit our Flickr page to check out our photos.
Eating Great Food to Support Our Troops?
Is it possible to eat great food and support those who sacrifice so much for you at the same time? Yes, it is, and that’s exactly what you did. Thanks to everyone who came out to Fazoli’s to support the Army’s Army during the weekend of December 9-11. Fazoli’s, who is a proud supporter of the military, donated a portion of the weekend’s sales to the Army’s Army. Money raised during this event will go directly towards funding the Army’s Army mission of supporting soldiers, veterans and their families.
A Time to Meet Santa!
This month the Army’s Army, along with the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, sponsored the Fort Bragg Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, which was hosted by MWR.
This event was great for all the families that attended, especially kids who got a chance to meet Santa in person. There were even a few adults that indulged in childhood memories and shared a moment with Santa!

Dr. Jonathan E. Tinsley |
|
This month we would like to recognize Dr. Jonathan E. Tinsley. Many of you may know him as “Doc.”
When John is not busy organizing and putting together events like Heroes Crusade, he is usually spending time with his family. John and his family live in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
What you may not know about John is that he is a certified Chiropractic Sports Physician with certifications in Yoga and USUI Reiki Healing. He also used to be an Emergency Medical Technician in New York. John is the President and Founder of Rugby Promotions, Inc. and has been with the organization for over 11 years.
This past November, John organized an incredibly memorable weekend for both sports fanatics and families in Fayetteville. Heroes Crusade was a three day sporting tournament that raised money for the Wounded Warrior Project, Green Beret Foundation, RDU AMBUCS and Ride 2 Recovery. The tournament consisted of three events: Heroes Crusade Golf Tournament, Fallen Warrior Rugby Tournament, and 5k Run/Walk/Bike. The goal of the event was to raise awareness and funds for wounded warriors. Close to 500 athletes participated in the tournament, raising $12,000.
You can view some of the videos from the event on the Heroes Crusade YouTube channel.
