During a recent math activity, my fifth graders enjoyed using a new app, MyScript Calculator. With the free app, users handwrite mathematical expressions onto the screen and see them instantly converted to type and solved. My class was captivated. Working with fourth and fifth grade Bridges, I've seen many examples of The Great Wall of Base Ten, from units two and six. The lessons invite students to explore place value, decimals, and the powers of ten.
