Are You Happy With Your Medicare Part D
Prescription Drug Plan?

Fantastic! However, in January you don't want to find out at the pharmacy counter that your medication is no longer in their formulary and the copay (on an already pricey medication) has now spiked in cost. Reassess your drug coverage before you are locked into the wrong plan in 2016! We can help you with this!

Alliance on Aging has a number of "Drop In Days" scheduled where you can get first-come-first-served help with making the best decision for your medication needs.

Salinas Seniors Get a Break on Utility Bills

Salinas seniors are entitled to a break on their monthly utility bills, but some may not know it and are missing out. The 5-6% utility users tax (UUT) is levied on telecommunications, gas, water and some TV services but any Salinas resident aged 65 or higher is exempt from paying it. To receive this exemption, a senior only needs to complete a short application form, listing each utility bill and its account numbers. The form can be downloaded here or can be picked up at City Hall. To request a form be mailed to you, call 831-758-7381.

"We're glad to be able to offer seniors a break," said Mayor Joe Gunter. "We encourage all people 65 and over to apply."

Thanksgiving Dinner

Salinas Senior Center is again hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for local seniors. Special thanks to Hartnell College for co-sponsoring this event.

AOA in Monterey County Gives

Good news. Alliance on Aging is one of 141 local nonprofits selected by the Monterey County Weekly to appear in the upcoming Thanksgiving issue. The Weekly's biggest issue of the year will kick off "Monterey County Gives!", a fundraising campaign that asks readers to donate to their featured non profits for their big ideas in helping the community. AOA's big idea is to institute a multi-pronged approach to inform/educate families and caregivers about senior resources. Why give? The Weekly will provide a match; a pro-rated percentage from 1 to 13%, of the total donations collected by each non profit. What this means is that the more donations AOA receives, the more The Weekly will match. There are 2 ways to donate: Complete the donation form in the November 12th issue of the Monterey County Weekly or click here between November 12 and December 31 to donate online.
