Forget pumpkin spiced everything, it's Medicare Season!

Medicare Part D beneficiaries can lower their costs by changing plans each year. Prescription insurers constantly shuffle drugs on and off their lists of approved medications, or ratchet up the cost of specialty medicines. Would you believe only about 10 percent of beneficiaries take action and actually switch, even though they can save money? Do yourself a favor and visit the HICAP page or call Alliance on Aging at 800.434.0222 for free assistance.

One way to be sure you have the tools necessary to re-evaluate your coverage is to attend a Medicare Update seminar. There are a number of presentations scheduled throughout the county.

It's Tax Time! (Too soon?)

The Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program is already preparing for next year's tax season. The most important part of the planning includes recruiting a team of volunteers. There are a number of volunteer opportunities available to you: Those with tax experience are invited to apply for a Tax Preparer position. In addition to Tax Preparers, there are also openings for Greeters, Reviewers, e-Filers, and a Data Specialist.

For additional information, contact Sarah Guzman at 831.655.4242.

Trashion Show THANK YOU

A great big THANK YOU to everyone who attended this year's Trashion Show. The event was a huge success due to your generosity and support. We are especially grateful to our sponsors, many of whom are first-time donors. A number of those sponsors are Salinas Valley produce growers who have helped to create a bridge that connects Monterey County's agricultural businesses with the Alliance on Aging. This year's presenting sponsor was Central Coast Senior Services (CCSS).

More than 300 guests attended this fun filled event that featured 21 unique fashions made from recycled/re-purposed everyday materials. The event raised money to support critically needed services and programs for seniors in Monterey County.
