Flu Ends with You

Be proactive this year and get your flu shot before you get the flu. On Monday, September 16 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., the Central Coast VNA will hold a flu shot clinic at the AoA Salinas office.   In addition to flu shots, the T-dap and pneumonia vaccines will also be available.

     Medicare Open Enrollment is
October 15 - December 7

Open Enrollment is the one time of year when ALL people with Medicare can see what new benefits Medicare has to offer and make changes to their prescription drug coverage.  It's worth it to take the time to review and compare, but you don't have to do it alone.  We're here to help.  Call HICAP - the Medicare Program at Alliance on Aging. 800-434-0222

Click here for more info about the HICAP Program or here to see upcoming Medicare presentations.

It's Not Too Late to Become a Peer Counselor

The Alliance on Aging Senior Peer Counseling Program is still in search of Peer Counselors.  Training is set to begin in September; if you are over 55, compassionate and a good listener, contact Sheryl Zika.  Bilingual speakers are encouraged to apply and can call and speak with Zulema Gonzalez for more information.

From Monterey: 831.646.1458.  From Salinas: 831.758.4011. To learn more about the Senior Peer Counseling Program, click here.

Film Reel Hooray for Hollywood

Back by popular demand, the Aging at The Movies series will begin again on Monday, September 9.  Join a group of your peers to view a film related to aging; then discuss the way in which the issues were addressed by characters in the film.

2013 Annual Support Campaign Kicks Off

This Month

Did you know that the senior poverty level in Monterey County is almost three times (22%) the national average (8%)?  More older Americans than ever before are asking for our help.

The next few months are the most important part of our fundraising year - our Annual Support Campaign.  During the campaign, volunteers will be reaching out to the community to make them aware of the urgent needs of seniors right here in Monterey County.  The volunteers will be asking for your support to help keep these vital services alive at a time when our programs face even greater threats at the federal level.  Please be generous if you receive a call from one of our volunteers.

A huge thank you to those committed volunteers who will be making those calls.

Please read the Annual Support Campaign Case Statement

for details.
