Ombudsman? Ombusdsman?

Om*buds*man - "A Volunteer who protects the dignity and rights of the elderly"

2,125 people.  That's how many residents live in Monterey County's 76 licensed care facilities.  In the past year, Ombudsman Volunteers made over 1,100 facility visits, ensuring that every resident meets and knows the friendly face of an Ombudsman who is here to assist them.

AOA'S Ombudsman Program is the ONLY agency uniquely focused on the rights, human dignity, quality of life, safety and welfare of the elder resident.  Our staff and certified volunteers advocate for the residents, investigate concerns, and educate staff and families about the resident's rights.  Certified Ombudsman Volunteers are volunteer advocates who provide the crucial on-the-ground link to thousands of long term care residents; who bring our mission into a daily reality for residents across Monterey County.

100,000 people are turning 65 every day.  Without question, we need more Ombudsman Volunteers now and in the future.  Join us!  Click here to learn more about the program.  For additional information, contact Becky Mann, 831.655.7563.

I Remember MAMA

On Mother's Day, honor your mother, grandmother or their memory by having a beautiful flowering plant from Rocket Farms delivered to a woman living in long-term care who might otherwise not be acknowledged on this special day.  Alliance on Aging's Ombudsman Program protects the rights of 2,000 of the most vulnerable seniors who reside in our local nursing homes & assisted living facilities.  Ombudsmen make regular visits to these facilities to investigate complaints including abuse and neglect and also advocate for quality care and treatment.  Many of these seniors are without family to speak on their behalf and often the Ombudsman is their only visitor.

Click here to donate so that we may deliver a flowering plant(s) in time for Mother's Day.

If you would like to help deliver plants please call 831.655.7559 to speak with Christine Lawson.  It is a rewarding experience to see how thrilled the women are to receive a beautiful plant and also a visitor.  Families are encouraged to participate.
