Exotic Birds Added
In addition to some very rare visitors that showed up for the first time, the updates this year include three exotic birds.
  
Rosy-faced Lovebirds are now established in the Phoenix, Arizona area. Nanday Parakeets are found near St. Petersburg, Florida and in Los Angeles, California. And the Purple Swamphen is established (and becoming a pest) near Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Free Updates for v4 and v5
2013 updates are now available for current versions

Free updates are now available for those of you using version 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 and 5.5. To get the free updates just open your birding program and click "Check for Updates."

Changes in version 4.5.2 and 5.5.2
This free update includes taxonomical changes made in the 54th Supplement to the American Ornithologist's Union Checklist (July 2013) including the split of Sage Sparrow into Bell's Sparrow and Sagebrush Sparrow and the addition of Rosy-faced Lovebird, Nanday Parakeet and Purple Swamphen and as well as [in the Gold edition] Double-toothed Kite, Asian Rosy-Finch, Providence Petrel and Rufous-necked Wood Rail.
 
In addition we have also updated state and province checklists and added over 25 new photos and 10 new songs. Pick One Quizzes no longer display bird's eggs as possible answers (Oops! One of my bigger blunders!) And birds with hyphenated names and birds with three words in the common name are now easier to find. [Mac users - as you type, hold down the fn key in the lower left corner of the keyboard and press F5 at the same time.]
