- Did you know 20% of the children in our communities live in Poverty?
- Did you know that a disadvantaged child starts school at least 2 years behind in pre-reading skills?
- Did you know that if a child is taking a multi-vitamin it can increase the child's concentration, academics and athletic success?
- Did you know a healthy child has a better chance to educational success?
TCAUW is taking the lead in organizing and mobilizing the community with our Educational Success Cradle to Career intiative.
This year we piloted a Kindergarten Countdown with the Menominee School District which has proven itself successful.
- 46 % of those in attendance were Head Start students, which served to meet TCAUW objective of reaching disadvantaged children.
- 23% of the participants either learned or improved upon targeted skills. This exceeds the 10% expectation of growth in those skills.
- 92% of the parents participating in the parent orientation.
TCAUW partnered with Peshtigo and Oconto Pharmacy in FREE VITAMIN program for 1 year. Each child in the family received 1 bottle of vitamins, each month for 1 year. This year we have over 1500 children signed up.
TCAUW partner with NWTC to provide a FREE Back to School Health Screening for children in grades pre-k to 12th. This event provided the following services:
- Dental, vision, hearing, and spinal checks
- BMI, nutritional advice, healthy activities
- 76 families with 127 children were served
- 26% did not have insurance that would cover all of these services
- 27% use this health screening for the child's health evaluation for school
