6,506 Homeless and Low Income Bay Area Youth Receive Confidence From Head to Toe this Back-to-School Season!

* Client impact story and photo do not correlate
Together, we were able to provide 6,506 homeless and low income youth in the San Francisco Bay Area with a brand new pair of shoes and a $50 clothing gift certificate. Each child received their gift in a special bag that is sewn and signed with love by a volunteer. We could not have accomplished our goal without the help of our wonderful donors and volunteers! Thank you!

Please take a moment to read the story of a youth whose life was impacted by our gift this year.

Ruben is 15 years old and has been through a lot of transitions. Ruben hasn't had new clothes for as long as he can remember.  At 15, he is starting his sophomore year of high school, aware that his friends and classmates will be showing up with brand new school clothes, as they do every year. Ruben wasn't expecting a gift card for Old Navy. He wasn't expecting to show up on his first day of class with new shoes.  When he got the gift card and the shoes, all he could do was stare at them. His eyes welled up and he looked up at his case manager and just said, quietly, "Thank you."

My New Red Shoes sixth annual Clothing for Confidence Fashion Show and Silent Auction took place on Sunday September 28, 2014 at Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club in Menlo Park and was a resounding success. Many thanks to Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry, the Presenting Sponsor of the event who generously provided an exquisite piece of jewelry as the sought-after raffle item. Malvika Behl and Amy Burnett served as Co-Chairs of the event and lead a Steering Committee of over 30 local energetic and committed women who generously gave their time and talents to ensure its success.

Over 300 guests attended the event which featured more than 90 local children modeling back-to-school fashions from Old Navy, My New Red Shoes' retail clothing partner. A silent auction of uniquely bundled items donated by the local business community was also a highlight of the fundraiser. Proceeds from the event will benefit the more than 7,000 homeless children My New Red Shoes plans to serve in 2015.

The event, now in its sixth year, was founded by former Oak Knoll Elementary School Vice Principal, Marianne Walters and community leader and philanthropist, Lisa Goldman, both of whom continue to serve on My New Red Shoes Advisory Board.

Many thanks to everyone that attended and supported the event!
