Greetings!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! There's still snow on the ground, but Spring perennials are poking through the dirt, and Daylight Saving Time means the sun is up later. These are all good things, and they mean that Spring is not far off.

In this issue, we have Spring home maintenance tips, tips for combating pesky ants, and information about reporting Word Orders.
Spring Home Maintenance Tips

Spring may be in our minds right now, but when it comes, we recommend some basic home maintenance tips to keep your home humming:

  • Inspect your smoke detectors. Test them monthly, and change the batteries annually or as needed.
  • Check the light bulbs in all your fixtures to be sure they are the correct wattage as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Replace all high-intensity bulbs (such as incandescent) with fluorescent bulbs that don't produce as much heat.
  • Check your electrical outlets for potential fire hazards such as frayed wires or loose-fitting plugs. Be sure not to overload electrical outlets, fuse boxes, extension cords or any other power service.
  • Keep a multi-purpose fire extinguisher accessible, filled and ready for operation.
  • Clean gutters and downspouts to keep debris from accumulating.
  • Clean or replace your furnace filter.
  • Clean the clothes dryer exhaust duct and space under the dryer. Remove all lint, dust, and pieces of material.
  • Safely store oil and gas for lawn equipment and tools in a vented, locked area.
Report Work Orders by Phone

If you have a Work Order issue to report, please call the office at 734-287-6619. Placing Comments/Conversations on the Tenant Portal is not a reliable method of communication. Unfortunately, we can't disable this feature, so we ask that you take note of this issue and instead direct your questions to us via telephone.

Here Come The Ants

Ants love warmer weather and dampness from Spring rain.  You may see a couple of random ants, or you may feel like they are taking over.  Don't panic.  Ant traps are easy to use and inexpensive.  They can be found at any hardware store (such as Lowes or Home Depot), grocery store (such as Meijer or Kroger), or general merchandise store (such as the dollar store or Walmart).

The best way to keep the ants at bay is to remove their food and water source.  Keep floors and counters clean.  Remove pet food and water bowls when your pets are not eating.  Remove trash from the home regularly, and remove pools of water.

As you know, exterminating ants is the responsibility of the Tenant. If you have ants, please follow the steps above.

The first day of Spring is March 20. It won't be long before we are running around in shorts and looking for the wave runners!

Sincerely,

Chris Garner
