Greetings!

November is always a busy month here at Garner Properties as we prepare for winter. In this issue of the newsletter, we have important information about fall cleanup, tips for staying warmer, and our holiday hours.

Let's also remember that we are entering the holiday season (maybe you've noticed that the retail stores are starting the holiday blitz). For Thanksgiving, we are thankful for you.

Fall Clean Up

It's that time of year when we ask you to prepare your home for the colder weather. As you know, Tenants are responsible for snow removal, and cleaning out gutters and downspouts. We also offer some other reminders for you to get ready for winter.

  • Clean out gutters and downspouts - as the leaves fall, they can get stuck in gutters and downspouts. Clogged gutters and downspout prevent proper drainage of rain away from the house. It also can promote ice-damming and dangerous icicles in the winter. Check this video about how to safely clean gutters and downspouts.
  • Clear fallen leaves away from the basement window wells - If your house has basement window wells, be sure to clear fallen leaves from the wells to avoid water and ice buildup. Here is some more information about clearing the window wells.
  • If you have an outdoor hose, bring it inside before the weather freezes so that it doesn't crack.
  • Bring outdoor furniture in or cover it up so that it will last longer.
  • When the snow falls (and it will), safely clear the snow with a shovel or sprinkle ice melt.

If you have any questions, please contact our office at (734) 287-6619.

Staying Warmer This Winter

Before turning on your heat, be sure that your heat vents are open and unobstructed, and that your cold air return vents are also unobstructed.

Once your heat is on, you can make adjustments to balance the air flow. Click on the link to learn how.

This will keep you warmer, prolong the life of your furnace, keep the air in your home circulating properly, and makes your furnace more energy efficient.
