In the last newsletter I said "I believe summer is officially over", and I now I know it!  I work out of our Onalaska office and last week I had a chance to visit our offices in South Bend, Waupaca, and Rhinelander - turns out it is jacket weather and the trees are turning colors.  So, I can now say "I believe fall is officially here" and I hope we can go a couple months before having to say winter... 

We had a large team of 9 staff that attended Directions, which is a partner-only NAV event.  It was awesome to see and touch NAV 2015 and there are some great tools beside functionality that has been released.  Tom has a blog entry this month that goes into more details - we're optimistic and excited, and will share more as we gain experience.

The next big event is next week and that is NAVUG Summit, which is the national NAV user group meeting.  It will be exciting to hear the NAV 2015 buzz amongst the user community. If you are able to attend, I highly encourage you as the networking with peers has tremendous value - I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

What if you could upgrade your Dynamics NAV system in under a week?

By Tom Doran

What if you could upgrade you Dynamics NAV system in under a week?
Crazy right?  I am not so certain.  The Microsoft Dynamics NAV partner community just finished our annual conference (Directions).  During this meeting Microsoft showed us NAV 2015.  All I can say is "holy smokes"!  I will go into some of the other features that are really cool in a minute, but the upgrade tool is flat out amazing.

Microsoft has clearly listened to their customers.  A major complaint the past few years is that users of Dynamics NAV simply had a very hard time cost justifying a system upgrade.  System updates that previously may have run from $25,000 to $40,000 skyrocket to well over $100,000.  Obviously, no one liked this trend.  The driver was the redesign of Dynamics NAV from the ground up by Microsoft.  While, ultimately, we were all promised that this work would pay off in the long run, for the past 4-5 years it has been painful for customers who needed to upgrade their system.  Microsoft has finally delivered on the promise.  During our meeting they upgraded a 2 GB NAV database with modifications in 11 minutes.  LIVE...While we all watched!  This is going to have a very positive impact on existing NAV users in the long run.

Microsoft Azure: Taking Cloud to the next level Part 2 - Azure Automation

By Jeffrey Pergolski

This is the second installment in my three part series about Microsoft Azure.  In the first installment I reviewed the basics and how Azure can be used to help increase efficiency within your IT environment, as well as reducing costs.  In this installment we'll dig a little deeper into Azure and how you might get started with Azure.  As always, you can find more info about Microsoft Azure by heading to http://azure.microsoft.com for the latest and greatest information.

The great (and sometimes difficult) thing about cloud based solutions is that they are constantly changing.  Maybe changing isn't the right word. It's more accurate to say they are constantly evolving and that would be the case with Microsoft Azure as well.  Almost daily, Microsoft is releasing updates to Azure, either in its compatibility, functionality, or deployment options.  This constant state of improvement shouldn't be overwhelming as these changes will ultimately benefit end users in terms of added functionality and more flexible deployment options.

Doing good and doing well - Well is a deep subject.

By Donavan Lane

This past August I was privileged to be a part of a humanitarian team that helped provide cisterns for storing clean drinking water to the remote Maiuni Village in Kenya, Africa.  It gave me pause to see the impact of what clean drinking water will do to improve the quality of life for our fellow mankind.

As companies and individuals here in the United States most citizens take the basic necessities of life for granted.   As responsible companies and individuals when we take to heart that doing good and doing well go hand in hand, we raise our entire team to a higher level of wellbeing.  Then being responsible we make a bold statement that clean water should be the basic right of each individual on this planet.

To understand the process of doing good and doing well, it all starts with individuals that are catalyst.  They are the glue, the stickiness that attracts others that want to lead and help.  The origin of our trip started years ago with an amazing leader born in the Maiuni Village, Nicholas Syano.  As many of the Kenyan citizens, Nicholas is a smart, driven individual that wanted a higher education whose knowledge would somehow lead to bringing his village an improved quality of life.
