Customer Comment
"ABC Computers was an essential component during the startup phase of our newly formed company. We were able to effectively focus our resources on managing and cultivating the business while they ensured we were well supported with our IT requirements, often at a moment's notice. As our business grows, ABC continues to foster a plan for IT growth as well"

Well, I believe summer is officially over... we didn't have too many hot days - it seemed to start late and it was over quick.  At least we are blessed to live in an area of the country that has the change of seasons giving us great variety to enjoy while we anticipate summer next year!  Although, unfortunately, one of the seasons we have is road construction and that seems to be running strong this year!

We have a couple great events coming up for our company - the first one is Directions which is a partner-only NAV event.  We have to rough it in San Diego for 3 days... It sounds like we'll have a deep dive with Crete, which was the code name for NAV 2015.  This will help us with our readiness efforts to do a great job with our customers - more to come as we get prepared.

The second event is NAVUG Summit, which is the national NAV user group meeting, held October 14th - 17th in St. Louis, MO.

I personally have been to a number of the regional events but this will be my first time at the national event.  We have a number of staff that have attended in the past as presenters, and will be again this year, and they tell me it is a MUST ATTEND event!  There is plenty of networking and learning opportunities - well worth your time to attend - I hope you can make it!

Sincerely,

Can I afford to take MORE time away from the office?

By Tom Doran

As summer comes to a close and I look at my fall schedule I have a conundrum.  See, I had a great summer.  I enjoyed time at the lake with my family, a few long weekends around the pool, and of course our annual summer party!  Now as I get ready for the push to close the year strong, I am doing some planning for the coming four months.  Imagine my surprise when I realize that I am actually out of the office more in the next four months than I have been in the past three months.  So now I am trying to decide what can possibly get removed from the hectic travel schedule.  The answer begins to appear clearly, while I could make some justification for canceling one or two of these trips, I need to make them.  As an example, consider NAVUG Summit, in St. Louis, October 14-17.  With travel, this trip will essentially take me away from the office for a full week, not to mention have me arriving home late on a Friday night.  However, when I consider the value of attending NAVUG Summit, clearly I cannot miss this important event.

So you want a WMS?

By Alan Wyne

First let's start with a definition of WMS. WMS stands for Warehouse Management System. Sounds simple right? It is a system that helps me manage my warehouse. I've got it. Well not so fast. WMS's can come in many flavors and levels of complexity. At a low end systems can keep track of what goes in and out of a warehouse. At the high end the system can tell you exactly what location within the warehouse, within a zone, and within the racking the product is sitting. You can do everything on paper and then key it into the system or you can have portable computers (handheld, vehicle mounted, or voice activated hardware) which interact in real-time with the system. A WMS can run conveyor systems, do directed picking with lighting, require barcode and RFID scanning, track lot and serial numbers, and track the productivity of the warehouse staff.

Could your business continue if a disaster happened?

By Ben Bolte

40% of businesses hit by a disaster never reopen and 25% of them that do don't last longer than 2 more years*.  These are statistics that I hear at conventions all the time.  Nearly every disaster recovery company pushes some version of this.  It's a scary statistic if you own a company.  What I've found over the years is that, while most companies have a backup plan in place, most are seldom, if ever, tested and many couldn't be restored in a timely matter if they were good.  I've looked for years for an affordable way to backup not just the data, but the complete systems.  We've sold some great solutions to clients who realize the risk, but many of them see the cost of the solution and choose to gamble.  Generally, what I find is the monthly cost or the initial investment for something that you might not need is just too high and so owners choose to gamble instead.  With the advancements in virtualized technology, the backup and restoration process have changed dramatically over the past few years.

How to Re-Energize your NAV System
By John Grant
A few qualifying statements: First, let's define "driving value": I mean saving time or effort in a business process. Your company will address new technology and platform strategies such as Windows Azure and Office 365. New business requirements and other events will drive change but these types of changes I would classify as projects. The approach I will detail is based on NAV being the catalyst for day to day process improvements.Read More
