People who lived in Westchester County on October 27 that suffered losses of property or income due to Hurricane Sandy may be eligible for a one-time SNAP EBT benefit to help pay for food.

Current SNAP/food stamp households do not need to apply. A one-time supplemental benefit may automatically be added to their account in November to bring their benefit level equal to the maximum household allotment.

The program will run through Friday, November 23 and will suspend for Thanksgiving Day. There are specific income guidelines and other requirements. Click here for more information.

Households in New York City and Nassau, Rockland, Suffolk, Westchester, Orange, Putnam and Sullivan Counties and due to recertify for SNAP/Food Stamps in October or November will now have an extra month to recertify. According to a

press release from Governor Andrew Cuomo, an extension has been provided.

What does this mean?

*    Households due to recertify in October, now have until the end of November to complete the process.

*    Households due to recertify in November, now have until the end of December to complete the process.

Note: This does not apply to households that have already completed the recertification process.

Households that have been relocated are encouraged to contact a Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) Coordinator in their home county.
