Prepared Food Waiver Issued for All of New York City Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk, Sullivan, and Westchester Counties
You may use your SNAP benefits to purchase hot foods and prepared foods. This may be helpful for SNAP recipients who lost power or have been relocated as a result of the storm and are unable to store food or have access to cooking facilities.
The food must be purchased at authorized retailers, like grocery stores, that already accept EBT.
This change is effective immediately and expires November 30, 2012.
For More Information: Contact your local Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) Coordinator. NOEP Coordinators can help potentially eligible individuals and families apply for SNAP benefits.

Children Displaced by Hurricane Can Qualify for Free School Meals
Many families with school-aged children have lost their homes, are displaced, are living in temporary shelters, and/or are experiencing household income changes. These families may be in need of food assistance. Children from these homes can be counted as homeless under federal law, and therefore automatically eligible for free school meals for the entire school year.
Families need to contact the school district's homeless liaison to qualify for free school meals. Click here for a list of all liaisons in NYS. For additional information from the NYS Department of Education regarding child nutrition programs click here for a recent memo.
