Recently, in the Florida State Senate, Senate Bill 1554 was introduced and proposes to repeal provisions relating to state preemption of smoking regulations. The removal of preemption means that city and county governments would no longer be restricted from enacting their own local smoking policies including bans and ordinances as they see fit.
SB 1554, as it is currently proposed, will result in a patchwork of restrictions that will blanket the state and potentially extend smoking bans to include outdoor areas, places of employment, cigar bars, retail shops, and other outdoor areas.
The last think Florida needs is for every local government in the the state to start enacting a series misguided policies that will affect small businesses and consumers alike in the Sunshine State.
Take action and contact your members of the Florida State Legislature and respectively ask that they vote NO on SB 1554.
