Sign-Up Today for Our Summer Theatre Intensive

Performers, directors, and playwrights are invited to join us at our annual Summer Theatre Intensive, running August 9 to 15 in Waterloo.  Immerse yourself in a unique theatrical learning experience as you learn new skills, meet passionate people, and flex your creative muscles.  The application deadline is June 26.

Summer Theatre Intensive Joseph van Veen was interviewed on our blog about his experience and how the Intensive gave him the skills and confidence to direct his first show.

Zara Jestadt, our Education Assistant last summer, wrote about the enduring sense of community she observed during the Intensive.

And from our archives, Murray Tilson wrote about how the Intensive was "the best way he could think of spending a week of his vacation."

What Bit You? A Social for Emerging Theatre Artists

We know what it's like. You love the theatre scene and you love meeting people in it. You want to be part of all the action, but sometimes it can be hard to find that connection... Theatre Ontario Next Generation Showcase 2014

This is a chance for youth ages 14+ to get together, hang out, and get to know other like-minded youth who they may not have met otherwise!

Join us Friday, June 19th at 7:00pm at Factory Theatre in Toronto.

The Youth Advisory Committee is also looking to plan other valuable events and initiatives for youth 14 to 29, and are gathering more information about what theatre resources you use, which you have trouble accessing, and what resources you would like to see made available to you.

Take the survey and you can participate in a monthly draw for a surprise pack of 5 free plays!  Take our Theatre Ontario Youth Advisory Committee survey

Reciprocal Agreements: CAEA & ACTRA

Attention actors! Are you thinking of signing? Already signed but don't understand the fine print? You don't need to be a lawyer to understand contracts! If you work (or plan to work) in both live performance and recorded media, you must navigate the agreements between different unions - and we're here to help.

Join us on June 25 in Toronto for a joint presentation from Arden R. Ryshpan, the Executive Director of Canadian Actor's Equity Association and Karl Pruner, the Director of Communications for Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists.

This workshop is free for Theatre Ontario members and $20 for non-members.

Playwright-in-Person with Vern Thiessen

Vern Thiessen
We welcome Vern Thiessen as our Playwright-in-Person at our 2015 Summer Theatre Intensive in Waterloo on August 10.

He will be reading excerpts from his plays, followed by a Q&A.

This event is free and open to the public (it is not limited to those who are participating in the Summer Intensive) - but it will especially worthwhile for the playwriting students, studying with Maja Ardal.

Welcome to the New Members of the Talent Bank

The Theatre Ontario Talent Bank of theatre instructors was created as one of the great bridges between the professional, community and educational theatre worlds. Individuals and community theatre groups are thirsty to upgrade their skills.  The wide range of categories available makes the Talent Bank the "go-to" place for these people to seek out quality workshop leaders.

At this time of year, we are pleased to welcome the newest members of the Theatre Ontario Talent Bank.

Congratulations to the Spring 2015 Youth Theatre Training Program Grant Recipients
