Join Us at Theatre Ontario Festival 2015

The final two shows have been chosen to complete our showcase of outstanding community theatre beginning May 13 in Oshawa.

With four plays from the 1940s, 1960s, 1980s, and 2000s, from community theatres in Oshawa, Manitoulin Island, Peterborough, and Sarnia brings together passionate community theatre lovers from across our province.

We also have exciting educational events, including detailed adjudications with Ron Cameron-Lewis, Playwright-in-Person with Damien Atkins, our "Canadian Plays in Community Theatres" events with Playwrights Guild of Canada, and "Cultivating Tomorrow's Artists" with our Youth Advisory Committee.

Festival also celebrates outstanding achievements, including the presentation of the Michael Spence Award for Contribution to Community Theatre to John Storey, and the Festival Awards - which you can follow along on our Live-Blog.

A Summer Experience at Theatre Ontario

Theatre Ontario is seeking an Education Assistant to assist our Program Coordinator with the preparation of our annual adult Summer Theatre Intensive, and to support our membership, marketing and fundraising departments.  This position is for secondary and post-secondary students within six months of graduation.

Seeking Community Theatre Coordinator

As previously announced, Anne Mooney is retiring from Theatre Ontario at the end of June. We are now seeking a Community Theatre Coordinator. This is a part-time employee position.

Theatre Ontario and Why Not Theatre congratulate Lisa Cox, who has been chosen as the recipient of the International Creators Scholarship this year. The Scholarship allows for an emerging artist to train with Anne Bogart and the SITI Company for one month in Suzuki, Viewpoints, and directing and devising new work.

Congratulations Professional Theatre Training Program Grant Recipients

We are pleased to announce the Spring 2015 recipients of training grants through Theatre Ontario's Professional Theatre Training Program (PTTP).  We thank all those who applied to the program.

$51,780 was awarded in total among thirteen recipients.

Three of last fall's Professional Theatre Training Program projects have come to an end, and the grant recipients have shared their experiences on our blog.

Professional Theatre Training Program project with Julia Hune-Brown
Alexis Scott trained in artistic producing with David Whiteley at Plosive Productions, Mariel Marshall trained in directing with Ross Manson at Volcano Theatre, and Julie Hune-Brown trained in artistic directing with Ruth Howard at Jumblies Theatre. These projects are funded by the Ontario Arts Council.
