Artist as Entrepreneur: The Boot Camp

Theatre Ontario is excited to announce that we are partnering with STAF to deliver our next Artist as Entrepreneur Boot Camp on Saturday, March 28 from 10am to 5pm in Toronto.

The Boot Camp consists of four workshops in a one-day session.  This Boot Camp will feature two new workshops from the talented STAF staff:
  • Michael Wheeler will present "Leveraging Your Online Presence as a Theatre Artist"
  • Adriano Sobretodo Jr. will present "Getting a Grip on Grant Writing"

They will be paired with Seb FoxAllen's "Promoting Theatre on Social Media" and Pat Bradley's "Grant Application Mock Jury" for an intensive day of producer training.

Showcasing the Next Generation of Graduating Theatre Students

Our annual Next Generation Showcase turned 20 this year, marking two decades of thousands of graduating theatre school students getting their first introduction to the professional career they will be embarking upon. Next Generation Showcase 2015

This year, over 275 young performers from around the province, country, and world, took the stage in the Michael Young Theatre at the Young Centre for Performing Arts for a crowded audience of industry professionals - casting directors, agents, theatre directors, producers, artistic directors - to showcase their talents.

Funding Professional Theatre Mentorships

Do you need financial support for professional development or a "change of direction" in your career?  The next deadline to apply for our Professional Theatre Training Program (PTTP) is March 2.

The Professional Theatre Training Program offers financial support for unique and flexible training with a chosen mentor in any theatrical discipline (except performance.)  Applicants must have at least two years of professional experience following their formal education.

This program is funded by the Ontario Arts Council, an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Profiles of Professional Theatre Mentoring

Several new Professional Theatre Training Program projects awarded this past fall are now underway.

In our first batch of profiles, catch up with Amy Lee who trained in Directing with Jennifer Brewin at Theatre Professional Theatre Training Program at Theatre ColumbusColumbus, Jasmine Chen who is training in Outreach with Marjorie Chan at Cahoots Theatre, and Mariel Marshall who is training in Directing with Ross Manson at Volcano Theatre.  Read about these training projects on the Theatre Ontario Blog

Connecting Theatre Instructors and Community Organizations

Looking to bring your skills as a professional theatre trainer to community theatres and educational organizations?

Join Theatre Ontario's roster of skilled theatre trainers and workshop leaders by becoming a member of the Theatre Ontario Talent Bank.  The application deadline is February 15.

Funding Unique Youth Theatre Training

Does your organization want to undertake a unique youth training project, led by professional theatre artists?  The next deadline to apply for our Youth Theatre Training Program (YTTP) is March 16.

YTTP offers financial support to programs anywhere in Ontario, led by professional theatre artists, which deliver accessible training to young people.  This program is funded by the Ontario Arts Council, an agency of the Government of Ontario.
