Honouring Contributions to Community Theatre in the Central Ontario Region
Do you know someone whose sustained contribution, generosity of spirit, involvement, and commitment within his/her region has helped community theatre flourish? Theatre Ontario is now inviting nominations for the 2015 Michael Spence Award for Contribution to Community Theatre. This award is presented annually to an individual from the region that is hosting the Theatre Ontario Festival - which in 2015 is central Ontario. Project Profiles from the Professional Theatre Training Program Eight individuals were chosen as recipients of Theatre Ontario's Professional Theatre Training Program grants during our Spring 2014 application round.
This month, we check in with three projects: one at the beginning (Tim Welham training in Actor Training and Coaching with Ian Watson at Ryerson University and the National Theatre School); one in the middle (Madeleine Donohue is training in Producing and General Management with Monica Esteves and Eric Goldstein at Crow's Theatre); and one that has finished (Joseph Recinos trained in Producing with Marilo Nunez at Alameda Theatre Company in Toronto).

In Case You Missed It The Theatre Ontario's Youth Theatre Training Program offers financial support to programs anywhere in Ontario, led by professional theatre artists, which deliver accessible training to young people (age 14 to 21) in theatrical skills. The program is funded by the Ontario Arts Council, an agency of the Government of Ontario. The application deadline is October 15.
The Sandra Tulloch Award for Innovation in Arts and Culture is presented annually to an individual or a collective whose leadership, activism, and service has contributed to the development and strengthening of arts and culture in Ontario through innovative and practical initiatives. While Theatre Ontario administers this award, it recognizes achievements in all artistic and cultural disciplines. The nomination deadline is December 19.

Strengthening the Arts Environment Theatre Ontario is a member of PASO, a coalition of Provincial Arts Service Organizations that strives to strengthen the environment for the individuals and institutions that create and disseminate the arts in this province and for public access to the arts.
PASO has been extending a welcome to the new Government of Ontario, with responses from three ministries (so far.)
