Join us on December 3 for GivingTuesday "People may know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday... now GivingTuesday is coming to Canada on December 3, 2013. GivingTuesday is a National Giving Day. It is a new Canadian movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Cyber Monday. The "opening day of the giving season," it is a day where charities, companies and individuals join together to share commitments, rally for favourite causes and think about others."
Theatre Ontario is thrilled to be part of GivingTuesday - sharing the importance of giving to theatre in Ontario.

New Youth Advisory Committee Seeking Volunteers Theatre Ontario is currently undergoing major changes in order to become more accessible to young adults and young professionals (16-25). In order to accomplish this, we are looking to form a Youth Advisory Committee. The Committee will be responsible for establishing and implementing a plan of action for the next twelve months with the aim of creating greater accessibility to young theatre artists and patrons, and students of theatre.
Who we're looking for: Five individuals between the ages of 16-25. Applicants should have a strong interest in theatre in Ontario/the GTA, meaning that they attend shows on a regular basis (>5 times a year).

Expand your creative toolbox and let your new ideas flourish We're pleased to welcome David S. Craig as our co-instructor with Jim Warren for "Collective Creations: Crafting a Performance Piece", running November 29 to December 1 in London.
This weekend intensive is ideal for actors wanting to know how to polish their character development; performers wishing to refine their artistic process; directors seeking to harness and further creativity on the rehearsal floor; or playwrights looking for ways to enhance their story ideas.
In Collective Creations, led by the ingenious and inspiring talents of Jim and David, participants will work on the process of creating an original work of theatre, from its inception, to its development, and on to its refinement in preparation for performance.

Congratulations to Tom Mackan, 2013 Maggie Bassett Award Recipient We are thrilled to announce that Theatre Ontario's Maggie Bassett Award for 2013 was presented to Tom Mackan. The award, for a sustained and significant contribution by an individual to the development of theatre in Ontario, recognizes Tom and "the warm welcome and secure environment he fosters for those involved in the Hamilton-Burlington theatre community."
The award is sponsored by Alumnae Theatre.

Answers to your FAQs about the Business of Acting
Are you an actor beginning your professional career? In our Getting Started For Actors workshop, Mairin Smit answers the most frequently asked questions about the business of acting. The next session is on Wednesday, December 4 at 2pm in Toronto.
Joining Mairin is our "Guest Actor" Claire Acott. Claire is a proud graduate of the joint Acting program between Sheridan College in Oakville and the University of Toronto at Mississauga. Claire has also studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in England and is presently studying at the Second City Training Centre. As an emerging artist passionate about the development of new Canadian work, Claire has had the pleasure of working with Theatre Passe Muraille's emerging artist group Elephants in the Room; Theatre Caravel's Sea Change; and Steady State Theatre's Script Scrap.

Providing Training Opportunities for Ontario's Theatre Community In the next month, there are a number of terrific workshop opportunities available from Theatre Ontario.
Thinking of producing a show or starting a theatre company? Self-Start: The Basics of Producing with Mairin Smit on November 20 at 2:00pm in Toronto: If you want to do a show but have never produced professionally before, and if you want to know what questions to ask first, this session is for you! We're pleased to announce that Katherine Devlin (General Manager of Paprika Festival, General Manager of Outside the March Theatre Company, and Associate Producer of Crow's Theatre) will be joining us as our Guest Producer for the workshop.
Looking for tips and must-dos for preparing an application to the Ontario Arts Council? Grant Writing Information Session For Theatre Individuals and Groups with Pat Bradley, Theatre Officer of the Ontario Arts Council, on November 26 at 6:00pm in Toronto: Sharing her perspective, information, and tips about project grants, particularly the OAC's three theatre project programs.
How do you make the most with the minimal marketing resources? Targeting Your Audience: Surviving and Thriving on Less and Less with Cheryl Ewing on December 7 at 9:30am in London: Demonstrating how to have more success by defining, finding, growing and retaining your audiences, and giving you the tools to develop an adaptable marketing strategy and the tactical plan to implement it.

Bringing Together Theatre Lovers from Across Ontario at Festival Theatre Ontario Festival is more than just a showcase, celebration, and classroom for dedicated community theatres artists -- for some Ontario theatre lovers, it's a destination as treasured as a visit to any summer theatre town.

Training New Generation of Adjudicators The community theatre adjudication season has begun. Adjudicators are travelling the province choosing the productions which will ultimately represent their regions at the Theatre Ontario Festival.
This year, you might want to add to your theatrical experience by attending a trial adjudication. For the third time in recent years, Theatre Ontario held the Introduction to Adjudication course for people interested in the art of adjudication, and now the students are practicing what they learned.
