Theatre Ontario is on the Move! We are excited to announce that we will be moving to our new office effective January 1, 2013. All mail sent after December 31st should be addressed to:
Theatre Ontario 401 Richmond Street West, Suite 350 Toronto, ON M5V 3A8 We will be sharing our new suite with our current roommates at the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts and Playwrights Guild of Canada, and our sublets from the Arts Network for Children & Youth. Our telephone numbers and email addresses will remain the same. To accommodate the holidays and the move, our offices will close at 5pm on Thursday, December 20th and we will re-open on Monday, January 7th. |
Join us at Showcase 2013 To all artistic directors, freelance directors, casting directors, and agents (signed to the EIC or members of TAMAC) - join us for two days of talent, with over 235 theatre school graduates from across Ontario, as well as the National Theatre School in Montreal, gathering for the 19th annual Theatre Ontario Showcase.
Theatre Ontario's Showcase takes place on Sunday, January 20, starting at 10:30am, and Monday, January 21, starting at 11:00am, at the Jane Mallet Theatre in the St. Lawrence Centre, Toronto.

New Workshops for the New Year We have both exciting new workshops and some returning favourites coming up in January and early February.
Inclusion - Professional Advice for Professional Theatre Companies, with charles c. smith: Part 1 on January 15 and Part 2 on April 16
As part of their creative process, contemporary theatres are working to gain a better sense of creative possibilities and to engage communities in all aspects of their operations. These two sessions will assist theatre leaders in addressing these concerns and coming to understand how to begin to move their practices so that they are open and inclusive. Auditions - Preparation, Etiquette, Expectations, a talk back with Elley-Ray Hennessy, Andrew Lamb, and Renna Reddie on January 16
Join us for this Talk Back Session on: What should you expect at auditions? What do you bring to an audition? Good & bad audition stories; Differences between film, TV, commercials & theatre auditions; Equity versus non-Equity auditions; and crashing auditions - when is it a good idea? Self-Start: The Basics of Producing on February 6: If you want to do a show but have never produced professionally before, and if you want to know what questions to ask first, this session is for you! Learn and practice the principles of adjudication The next edition of our "Introduction to Adjudication" course will be running Tuesday, March 12 to Saturday, March 16 during the Western Ontario Drama League Festival in Guelph.
Under the instruction of Ron Cameron-Lewis, the course covers the principles of adjudication (including public, private/detailed, and written adjudications), evaluation schemes, award selection, and more. Participants will see shows in the Festival, practice "public" adjudications in private with their fellow students. Following the course, students will have an opportunity to practice adjudication skills at a community theatre in their area, and to network with experienced adjudicator mentors.

Congratulations to the Fall 2012 Professional Theatre Training Program grant recipients
We're excited to announce the latest recipients of training grants through our Professional Theatre Training Program (PTTP). $33,728 was awarded in total in this round. Read about all the Fall 2012 Theatre Ontario Professional Theatre Training Program recipients
The next application deadline for this program is March 1, 2013.
We also want to extend a special thank-you to Franco Boni, our outgoing Chair of the Professional Theatre Training Program Jury. Franco has served on the jury for over a decade with enthusiasm, keen insight, and diligence. Thank you Franco for your service to Theatre Ontario.

Free Grant Writing Information Session in Burlington In January, we will be hosting our third Grant Writing Information Session with Pat Bradley, Theatre Officer of the Ontario Arts Council. These sessions share information, perspective, and tips about project grants, particularly the OAC's three professional theatre project programs - Theatre Projects, Playwright Residency, and Theatre Creators' Reserve.

Save the Date for our Summer Courses Our 2013 Summer Theatre Intensive has been booked for August 11 to 17, returning again to Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo. We're looking forward to offering another exciting line-up of courses and instructors in 2013.

Festival 2013 taking shape in Kingston Our Festival committee is working hard on plans for Theatre Ontario Festival 2013, running May 15 to May 19 in Kingston. Our Festival Adjudicator will be John P. Kelly and our Festival Playwright-in-Person will be John Lazarus.

Deadline to apply for our Talent Bank of instructors is coming up The application deadline for our Talent Bank of theatre instructors is December 15 - join our roster of skilled theatre trainers and workshop leaders.
Theatre Ontario's Talent Bank matches organizations (particularly community theatres and educational organizations) with professional theatre teachers and trainers for workshops, adjudications, and short-term consulting contracts.
