Lumos Networks to Interconnect Networks, Build New Path from Atlanta to Ashburn

Waynesboro, Va. - Lumos Networks (NASDAQ: LMOS), a leading provider of fiber-based products across the Mid-Atlantic region, announced plans to interconnect its networkthrough a key provider with a significant presence in the Southeastern United States.  Together, they will build redundancy to the heavily-traveled route between Atlanta and Ashburn.

This key route will provide carriers and large bandwidth data center users with an alternative to the I-95 corridor which has experienced impairments and outages throughout its history, most recently earlier this year as a result of a number of weather-related events.  This new route will provide those needing to connect to these markets with a more reliable, redundant and robust path.

"We're excited to provide more reliability to those seeking to reach Ashburn from Atlanta and points in between," said Joe McCourt, Executive Vice President & Chief Revenue Officer.  "Interconnecting two major internet cities takes our already robust network to a whole new level.  Today, we can provide speeds to 10Gig wavelengths and larger configurations are expected in the next few months.  We expect to see benefits far beyond these markets as a result of this project."

With the building of this new route the two providers are essentially increasing the size of the highway, thus increasing traffic and reducing network contention. As a result, Lumos Networks anticipates significant wholesale, enterprise and higher educational opportunities.

Project completion is scheduled for fourth quarter 2012.  For more information or to learn more about Lumos Networks visit www.lumosnetworks.com.

Hometown Holidays in Downtown Farmville

Good morning, Everyone,

What a treat to be in Farmville! In barely two weeks, we have the annual Halloween Costume Parade (have you gotten your candy yet?) in the streets of Downtown Farmville. Hundreds of excited children and their parents will be visiting your place of business to celebrate the big night with you and I know you'll want to join in the fun.

You'll barely take a deep breath when - two days later - it's time for the annual Holiday Open House weekend November 2nd and 3rd. This gives our retail stores and service providers an opportunity to showcase your business before the holiday rush. We hope you'll take advantage of the chance to make a great impression to the many visitors - local and otherwise - we'll have on the streets of Farmville that weekend.

The theme for this year's holiday celebration is Hometown Holidays. We all know that Farmville is a wonderful hometown, so your Downtown Farmville Main Street organization is putting together a great promotion to share that excitement with locals and visitors alike.

Downtown Farmville has prepared a tentative schedule of events beginning with Open House weekend through December 22nd. We're asking everyone to pull out the garland, lights, and favorite decorations to really spruce up your storefront for the holiday season. If you'd like some help with this, please let me know (434-392-3060 or director@downtownfarmville.com) and we'll get you all decked out.

We're bringing Santa back to town on Saturdays and are excited to include community groups helping with the activities throughout the season. The Grand Illumination will take place on Small Business Saturday at Crute Stage with the annual Christmas parade on Sunday afternoon, December 2nd (it's not on the calendar, but is very much going to take place!).

As I'm getting to know all of you, I want to thank you for the wonderful welcome I've received since moving to Farmville three weeks ago. If you haven't seen your town through the eyes of a newcomer, you may not realize just what you have to offer. This is a fabulous place to live, work, and play! Let's share that secret with some other folks this season.

Thank you for your support. It will be my pleasure to be of support to you and your business.

Kindest regards,

Helen
