EMIRATES UPDATE ON ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Travellers to the UK, USA and Canada are required to demonstrate that their electronic and battery powered devices switch on at Dubai International airport, including telephones, laptops, tablets and e-books. This means charging your devices before arriving at the airport. All passengers will still be required to follow instructions for electronic devices for take-off and landing.
Will all baggage be screened for electronic devices?
Screening only applies to hand and carry-on baggage. Who will be doing the screening? Where? Emirates Group Security will be screening travellers at the boarding gates for flights departing to destinations in the UK, US or Canada. What if I can't power up my electronic device?
You will not be allowed to board your flight, unless you choose to leave the device behind. These regulations are specified by the authorities of the three countries. There are no facilities to keep devices in storage.
Emirates is complying with new security requirements from the UK and US Governments, so please ensure that items you bring with you are fully powered before you arrive at the airport.

THREE OF THE BEST
Sherry Meakins, Corporate Consultant from our Crows Nest office, has provided her three of the best. Airline product: Air New Zealand A recent trip to New Zealand began with a short flight on Air New Zealand's Boeing 767-300. The self-check in kiosk took me less than five minutes and was efficient and effective. The ticket I booked on Air New Zealand was an economy "works" ticket this included all the entertainment I needed on board, check-in baggage and a tasty hot meal. All seats are equipped with a personal LCD screen in each backseat with a diverse array of the latest movies, TV series, games and music. This kept me entertained for the whole flight! Midway through the flight the friendly flight crew came past and provided me with my hot meal, chilli orange chicken and beverages. Overall flying Air New Zealand was a great experience, the staff were professional, the plane is fully equipped with enough entertainment and the meals were fresh and delicious. Destination: Waiheke Island, New Zealand I was fortunate enough to spend a whole day discovering what Waiheke Island had to offer. It is truly a destination that has something for everyone from beautiful beaches, famous wineries, art galleries, outdoor activities and conference facilities. Waiheke Island is a scenic 45-minute ferry ride from Auckland, this gave me time to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of New Zealand's natural environment. I arrived at Waiheke with a small group of seven and we were picked up by Sallie our local guide. Our group had arranged a zip line tour; to be honest I was partly scared and excited at the same time. I have to say it is one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Zip lining over vineyards and forest canopies was a breathtaking experience with spectacular views. Staff were professional and supportive as some people had a fear of heights. After the zip line tour my group and I went for a scenic bushwalk through the forest. It was a beautiful sunny day and the sun's rays filtered through the tree canopies. The forest was peaceful and all you could hear were the birds singing. To top off the tour our transportation back to Auckland was a fifteen-minute helicopter ride. It was in the air I could really appreciate how beautiful New Zealand is, how crystal clear the water was and how green and lively Waiheke Island is! Hotel/Resort: Manila Hotel, Manila, Philippines After travelling through the hustle and bustle of metro Manila, I reached the historical Manila Hotel which is rich in culture and history. Famously known for accommodating General Douglas MacArthur and for being the oldest premier hotel in Manila. A five star hotel located in the heart of Manila that has still been able to preserve the rich culture and history of the Philippines in every aspect of the hotel. As I walked into the main lobby staff wearing beautiful traditional dresses called a baro't saya greeted me. The hotel accommodates both business and leisure travellers. The Grand Deluxe room I stayed in was spectacular; the room was spacious with a beautiful view of Manila Bay and Rizal Park. The room was modern and classy but still preserved the Filipino culture throughout the room through the use of native Narra wood furnishings. The hotel is centrally located in the midst of the city centre and close to many tourist attractions. A short stroll or for the more adventurous a quick Jeepney ride will get you to Old Spanish churches, museums, the aquarium and the Mall of Asia.
