Your toilet may be quiet as a mouse, but are you sure it's not leaking? Toilets are one of the most common places to find indoor leaks. Sometimes toilet leaks are easy to see or hear, but other times they can be silent as a mouse. Fortunately checking your toilet for leaks is easy to do - all you need is 5-10 minutes and a few drops of food coloring. Here's how: - Add a couple of drops of food coloring to your toilet tank.
- Wait 5-10 minutes.
- Check your toilet bowl. If there is color in the bowl, you have a leak.
If you find that you do have a toilet leak, the good news is that many toilet leaks are easy and inexpensive to repair. See how to detect the source of your leak here, and find more ways to use water efficiently this holiday season here.

Saving water on your wish list? WaterSense has you covered.
The average American uses about 100 gallons of water a day. If that seems like a lot, there are simple things that you can do to use water more efficiently at home. For example, one of the easiest things you can do is make the switch to WaterSense labeled bathroom aerators and showerheads. They use about 20% less water than similar products and perform as well or better than their less efficient counterparts. And, at $1-5 for aerators and $10-20 for showerheads, they are a fairly inexpensive change to make.
