PAST RMBA HIGHLIGHTS
HONEY BEES MAKE HONEY CAKE

If our EC wasn't sweet enough, the classrooms and hallways are filled with the delicious smells of honey cakes and applesauce as our youngest students learn ingredients, measuring, and turn-taking as they prepare the foods of Rosh Hashana.

COUNTING THE SECONDS

Ms. Bigham's Montessori class was introduced to a lesson that helps children understand time in a concrete way.  Each created a personal family timeline.  A paper was sent home asking for the people in their family's names and ages.  Using this information, they cut "train tracks" to represent the family members ages.  Each "track" is one year.  They then attach the tracks under the family member's name and are able to visually see the difference in ages.

TISHREI TRIVIA

There's a lot of important information to remember about the mitzvot of Tishrei - no better way to learn than in a friendly competition!  Using a quiz show format, students beat each other to the buzzer as they show who has the most knowledge in Jewish Jeopardy!

GEMARA GREATS

High School Gemara has begun it's 2nd year of learning Masechet Shabbat. Students are delving into relevant, modern day scenarios that can occur during Shabbat. Students are learning the laws of Bishul (cooking) and their practical applications. Seen here are students from Rabbi Block's class reviewing in groups as they prepare to present their reading of the Gemara in front of peers.

SERVICE.  LEAD.  INPSIRE.

Middle and High School held their elections this week for their Student Council positions.  Platforms ranged from Student Lounges to fundraising with candidates committing their time and energy to listening to the needs of their cohorts.

DEFINING DAVENING

Shaliach Ilan helps Middle Schoolers explore the meaning of Davening with a new Explanatory Minyan.  This is one of the options being offered so that our Upper School students can find a place of meaning and kavana ("direction of the heart") in their davening experience.

ATHLETICS UPDATES

Middle School Volleyball
The middle school volleyball team won their first game of the season against Veritas this week.  The girls are working hard everyday and getting better.  They will look to continue their winning ways next game.  Here are a couple of things to think about as we start to play games on the road.
  • Some schools will charge admission at their schools to watch the game (most will not charge). We do not charge admission at Beren for middle school games.
  • Transportation to and from away games are the parents responsibility. The middle school girls away games are on September 10, September 21, October 8, October 13 and October 15.
  • There will be games in which the middle school players will need to leave their last class early to make it to the games on time.
  • Updated practice schedules are on the school calendar and game schedules can be found on the school website calendar.
  • The gate code is 233# for anyone picking up their child from basketball practice or games. Please use the Greenwillow gate.
  • If you have any questions, please e-mail me at [email protected].
I am always looking for adults to call lines, do the book and do the clock.

High School Volleyball
The girls loss their first TAPPS district game of the season against a tough Brazosport Christian team.  The Stars look to rebound next week as they take on Briarwood on Thursday.  Here are a couple of reminders about the season.
  • Some schools will charge admission at their schools to watch the game (most High School's will charge).
  • Updated practice schedules are on the school calendar and game schedules can be found on the school website calendar.
  • The gate code is 233# for anyone picking up their child from basketball practice or games. Please use the Greenwillow gate.
If you have any questions, please e-mail me at [email protected]

Flag Football
  • The flag football team is off to a great start to the season.  They are currently 2-0 and look to continue that trend through the following weeks.
BASKETBALL TO START IN LATE OCTOBER
All middle school and high school basketball teams will start in the later half of October.  Exact dates will be published in a few weeks.
