PIZZA TORAHS In honor of Shavuot, Our Bnot Sherut planned a fun filled activity with our elementary school students. They made their own pizzas shaped like Torahs by rolling out the dough and spreading the delicious sauce and cheese and while they baked, answered fun questions about Shavuot they had learned in class.
JERUSALEM, ALL ROADS LEAD TO YOU To mark the celebration of the incredible city of Jerusalem, our second graders performed a delightful play led by Geveret Erlichman in Hebrew to mark Yom Yerushalayim.
BEREN STAR BALLERS
Many of our K-3rd Grade students have been enjoying the after school basketball program that is grooming our future Beren Stars and on Sunday, Game 1 of our team showed spunk and skills! TORAH FAIR Families and friends gathered on Monday evening to mark the annual Torah Fair where students in grades 1-5 displayed their creative and impressive Torah Fair projects. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner, engaged the students to learn more about their presentations and watched a short slide show recapping the incredible Judaic activities of the past school year. Click below to enjoy the video! WHAT'S IN A NAME? Oour Upper Elementary school students gathered for the final Name that Book Challenge of the year with the theme being books about adventure. This is an optional program where students are required to read a list of books in their free time and then participate in a Name That Book competition based on their knowledge of the stories. Congratulations to all the students that take the time to go above and beyond! DEEP IN THE HEART 5th Grade students enjoyed their trip to our state capital and checked out all the cool and weird attributes of Austin, Texas. They visited Washington on the Brazos, Treaty Oak Park, LBJ Library and Museum, enjoyed a guided tour of the Texas State Capital, delicious meals and even some down time swimming!
SPECIAL GUESTS This past Rosh Chodesh celebration following davening, our high school students were treated to donuts and a lovely visit from Ruth Steinfeld and Fredda Friedlander, wife and daughter respectively of the late Larry Steinfeld Larry was a beloved substitute teacher who always had a warm smile or pretzels to offer and students shared these touching memories and more with his family members.
THE END IS NEAR Mrs. Schneider's first graders are learning how to write stories with the creative aid of pyramid diorama with added written text to create a sequence of events. Students are learning to better understand how to identify sentences that illustrate the beginning, middle and end of stories. LANGUAGE SANDWICH Morah Elisheva's 2nd grade is learning how to write descriptive pieces of writing using lots of adjectives. They had to write a step by step description of how to make a PB&J sandwich that Morah Elisheva then followed those directions to make the sandwiches. Needless to say, some of the sandwiches came out a little funny illustrating the power of descriptive language to our students.
MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY In order to better understand the meaning of Memorial Day, 6th grade students led an informative ceremony for their fellow Upper School classmates and welcomed Mr. Bob Murphy, 10th generation American soldier and Vietnam Veteran, and a current instructor at Lone Star College who delivered a rousing speech to our students.
