Thank you to all our RMBA families who participated so generously in our Staff Gift Campaign. Our teachers and staff felt greatly appreciated and it created a wonderful sentiment as we entered winter break for all to enjoy the remainder of Chanukah and the holiday season.
|
Some of our 6th grade students generously volunteered their time during the winter break to support the Star of Hope organization that meets the needs of homeless people throughout Houston. They baked 300 Rice Krispy Treats and created over 130 notes of encouragement. Kol Hakavod!
RMBA High School students enjoyed a special program called
Yom Iyun (Day of Study) where interesting connections were made between their general studies and Torah studies. Students enjoyed challenging classes such as Bible Codes, Science Music and Chanukah, Supreme Court, Magic and Miracles in Literature and Business Ethics. We also welcomed three community members to discuss how they use their Jewish values in their everyday careers including an attorney and a NASA engineer. Click here to view the event program.
READY TO LEARN
While students were enjoying their final day of winter break, our teachers were present at school for an enlightening professional development day. Impressive technological ideas and creative teaching methodologies were shared and a fulfilling day was enjoyed by all with the goal to create a more prepared and skilled team of teachers for your children.
Stacey Laves-Khalifa has once again implemented the successful "Lunch Bunch" program for our 3rd grade girls to meet and catch up once a week. The goal is to help them develop healthy friendships, build empathy and support an inclusive and respectful environment.
Gabi Gelman's Hebrew and Judaic instruction for her Kindergarten students is currently involving the review of the Hebrew Calendar dates which is part of the daily Tefila (prayers). Students discussed how the moon relates to the Hebrew calendar as it is lunar based.
SPELLING BEE BOUND
RMBA students in Grades 2 through 8 took part in a grueling Spelling Bee competition. What seemed like easier words quickly progressed into challenging and twisting words. Round after round left many students still standing until finally, a winner was crowned. Congratulations to our winner Ezra Miller (Grade 3) and 1st runner up Natanya Ruben (Grade 6) and 2nd runner up Sarah Loiselle (Grade 2) who will now compete in the next round of the competition. Well done to all our competitors who did an outstanding job!
FIT FOR A KING AND QUEEN
Over the winter vacation, the staff break room was magical transformed into a chic and relaxing spot for our teachers that will hopefully be more conducive to break time and collaboration. Thank you to the PTO for underwriting a portion of this revamp and to the volunteers who made it happen!

Basketball Updates
I have updated the schedule for all of January except for MLK weekend which will be updated by the end of this week. Please re sync your calendars if it is something that you do.
The MS JV boys game that was tentatively scheduled for January 11th with the Gann has been postponed. We are looking at another Sunday in January and currently, January 25th is the early favorite. More details will come as soon as I get them.

Middle School Basketball Reminders
-
All girls MUST wear an undershirt under their jersey. This shirt must be the same color as the primary color of the uniform (Home games - white; Away games - Royal blue). Boys don't need to wear an undershirt, but if they choose to do so, the same rules apply.
-
All players (boys and girls) need to purchase a royal blue pair of shorts if they do not already have. The shorts need to be completely royal blue with no stripes down the side. They can be purchased at Academy for about $6.00.
-
Some schools will charge admission at their schools to watch the game (most will not charge). We do not charge admission at Beren for middle school games.
-
Transportation to and from away games are the parents responsibility. The middle school girls do not have any away games until January.
-
There will be games in which the middle school players will need to leave their last class early to make it to the games on time.
-
A list of Away game locations is posted on the website.
-
Updated practice schedules are on the school calendar and game schedules can be found on the school website and calendar.
-
Please use the Greenwillow gate for picking up students after games or practices.
-
If you have any questions, please e-mail me at chriscole@berenacademy.org.
